I usually round up a few dollars to some dollar amount. Like if the cost is $17.85 Ill probably round up to $20. If the cost is $22.05 I might go up to $24 or $25

Honestly I think the federal government should step in to cap tipping. 20% cap on meals <$50, 15% for meals between $50-250, %12% for meals > $250, 10% for meals > $1000

this would be fine if they also mandated that all employees be paid an actual living wage

When you buy from the register directly you don't tip because no one is serving you technically. You might just throw in a dollar or 2 in the tip jar just for the heck of it but not any specific percentage.
