Same applies to Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings not being Final Fantasy XII-2.

I only ask since we got FFX-2 and FFXIII-2.

Square Enix being Square Enix.

Because they weren't.

And reminding me The After Years exists should be a terms of service violation.

I believe it's because the sequel was on a different platform.

But I don't really know.

What did you dislike about it?

I just think the Steam version of it (and IV) should be in 2D. I always felt that the 3D graphics for FFIV looked like a less impressive attempt at doing FFIX-style graphics.

That would likely make sense since TAY started on cell phones and Revenant Wings was on DS.

Also XIII -> XIII-2 -> Lightning Returns is even stranger.

Yes. Most people agree the PSP is the best version. Only reason to play the WiiWare version is if you want infinitely repeating challenge dungeon rewards and RNG tail manipulation.

Don't get me wrong, the basic premise makes sense. As they got released digitally on the Wii you'd have a month or two between chapters so you could farm all your clears or whatever and get all the items in anticipation of the next installment. Just, in the psp version it is awful because if you wanna get all those items for armors in the final chapter you gotta get at least a few clears for most of them and doing it for every chapter really adds up in terms of tediousness.

The concept behind some of them was very creative, and reminded me of the lunar ruins trials in the gba and psp version. Just really changed things around and some were actually interesting and worth getting through.

At least it was changed in the PSP so that the treasures didn't repeat meaning there was a very clear and definitive stopping point. Most dungeons you only have to clear about 6 times to get everything. If you only wanted the adamantite then you could get lucky and only clear it once. Some of the gear in there is pseudo BIS though like Yang's.

The biggest problem with the game is some characters are just useless. A fully kitted out Harley does less damage than naked Ursula and has less overall stats as well. I get that balance doesn't really matter but it feels like they didn't really even try. Ceodore, Ursula, Luca, Leonora, and Man in Black all have really good stats for new characters. The eblan ninjas, Harley, and the dolls have garbage everything even when wearing all BIS.

And that's not even getting into the improvements made to the og cast. Edward and Kain are broken op shit in TAY.

Overall I like the game better than the original but there's definitely improvements that could have been made.
