So could birthday parties. Or weddings. Bar mitzvahs. Anything, really. People want to celebrate a life moment, why are we shaming that? Because 1 out of every 100,000 people goes to far with it like pretty much anything else?

Having a party because you're having a kid? Great. Enjoy. 100% is a major life event. Here's your gift, lets have a few drinks to celebrate. Let's have fun.

Then having a 2nd party 3 months later to tell everyone if you're having a boy or a girl? Yeah, no thanks. Shoot me a text when the baby is born with a pic and the stats.

Ive never even seen gifts at a gender reveal party, but that's besides the point. The payoff is for the parents, quote obviously, but it's also for their family and friends to celebrate a.major.life moment. The gender is often the first thing you learn about a person you're going to raise for the rest of your life, it's a pretty big deal. Even before parties, it was a big deal to learn the gender, and shaming people for wanting to celebrate that and share it with their loved ones is bizarre.

A "major.life.moment." is having a kid. Finding out if it is a boy or a girl is NOT a major life moment.

Also, saying you don't like something or think is unnecessary isn't "shaming" people who do. You do you.

The mom shouldnt have to pay Its ridiculous to think she should have to

I also dont mind gender reveal parties Just another party And I like cupcakes and cakes and stuff

bigblu89 posted...
I find them irritable because people (usually) tend to use them as just another reason to get gifts.

Depends on the person. Some people have them for gifts (like specific gifts based on gender), but some dont. Some just like to have friends and family over. Some also do it for people who couldnt make the shower. Like if the shower was on a busy weekend

lww99 posted...
I think his main point was you dont need to TWO parties to celebrate your upcoming baby, and theyre being a little greedy lol

Its only greedy if you expect or make you guest bring gifts. If not, then its not really greedy

Ummm...I'm not taking either side here.

Ot1h, I know how emotional pregnancy can make you, and if a company can't deliver the goods or they're damaged you shouldn't pay for them or get a refund.

Otoh the baker did try to make amends and apologized.

I'm also confused as to why they weren't being picked up at a bakery shop? The whole mess could have been avoided.

Why are these so irritable to people? The premise is a little hokey but what's the harm of getting everyone together to celebrate your upcoming birth, even if the reason for it isn't that big a deal.

I never thought I'd be asking this because I find them a little odd as well but people treat them like...I dunno...people who claim "YouTuber" as a career.
It's not that people are irritated with gender reveal parties, because most people who don't want to be surprised will incorporate that into their baby shower.

People are irritated with the string of idiots who caused fires, injuries, property/nature damage, and one death by using explosives to announce it. Bad apples spoiling the bunch and all that.

This comment is kinda weird. Firstly, emotional pregnancy isn't a factor in this situation, and even if it were it has nothing to do with whether or not you should pay for damaged products.

Amends were not possible in this situation, and an apology is not reason enough to give someone money.

The baker was not working out of a bakery, the only way to prevent this situation would have been to put the dog away when expecting a visitor.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of gender reveal parties either. It's the baby equivalent of "this meeting could have been an email." I think it's unnecessary, but I get that some people just enjoy that stuff. Like some people even do a big reveal to let their family know they're pregnant.

A string doesn't mean something is common. It means similar incidents happening close together.

That could mean a string of robberies by the same thief.

It could mean a string of pranks or challenges. ( See ice bucket challenge or creepy clown sighting.)

It could mean that there's a serial killer.

It could mean a pack of idiots saw someone using colored smoke bombs and explosives for their gender reveal, thought it was a great idea and decided to do the same, safety be damned.

I didnt say it meant it was common. Just said it makes it sound more common. At least when Ive heard it used. When someone says string of robberies, its usually because quite a few robberies happen in that area Otherwise, they would probably say a few or couple robberies, as an example
