I saw a few days ago that The Big Lebowski is being rereleased to theaters. Never seen the movie. The only time I can go is 7:00 at night. Thing is I use public transportation and dont drive. The last run of the bus is at 9:46. The second to last run is 9:12. Is it worth it to see this movie in a movie theater setting or am I not missing anything seeing it on TV? Your opinion, please?

Thanks!

Thats a tough call. It will probably be filled with fans of the movie so that might be a fun atmosphere, but it really depends on your own sense of humor.

there is no special or outrageous action scene that you need to see on the big screen. Its more of a chill hang out stoner movie. You would probably enjoy it just as much sitting at home. Dare I say, many fans of the movie didnt even fully appreciate the movie until the 2nd or 3rd viewing.

its really up to you if you think its worth the travel, because the theater atmosphere does sound fun.

I think the theater atmosphere would be fun as well, but if Im not missing anything by seeing it on a small screen (TV), then I may consider saving my money. Im just really on the fence because Ive heard a lot of good things and that this is a funny movie.

For a movie like The Big Lebowski, I imagine seeing it in a theater would be more fun if you've already seen it. Like a Rocky Horror situation.

But still, great film, highly recommend multiple viewings

I wouldn't go that far, but it definitely has the Rocky Horror vibe of people taking it way too seriously.

For some people that might almost be a plus, if they enjoy the social experience. For other people it'll be a nightmare.

Turns out my mother borrowed the blu-ray The Big Lebowski from a friend of hers. I think Ill watch it that way as Ive never seen it and dont want people talking over it, which I know is a staple of Rocky Horror. Thank you for the advice and opinions.

The image I always had was fans having just sheer fun with it, not of taking it too seriously.

It wasn't bad, but I saw it and forgot most of it relatively quickly. It's one of those movies people like because the characters resonate with them (and not because the plot is memorable). If you're indifferent to the characters there's not much else there. Cult classic thing.
