I want to be Iconoclast and steer away from the conventional pants and t-shirts that I normally wear. I'm thinking of just wearing a robe and dressing up as a Jedi. If I can afford to dress up as an anime character, I'd choose to dress up as one of the MCs from One Piece; maybe Zorro or Luffy. Do people actually do this or am I particularly weird for even considering this? I want to close the gap between how I interpret the world through my imagination and how the world functions through the status quo.

I mean... do what you want. I don't think dressing like other people will make you a Iconoclast, as someone (or some character) has already worn the outfits you are planning.

Depends on what constitutes as "costume". There's Internet subcultures that are into retro fashion, about a decade ago I was really into retro style and wore some of the more out there elements like bowler hats. Of course nowadays, and being a bit more heavier, I dress a lot more sensible. When I was active on the Fedora Lounge you even had some people wearing Edwardian era clothing.
