This is the first time I've shot any guns since the 4th grade when I saw a .22 rifle at a friend's dad's friend's ranch.

My friend and I got a groupon deal that came with gun rentals, two paper targets each, and ear and eye protection. We just had to buy their ammo there.

I rent the Sig Sauer P226 9 mm:

Here's the ammo I used:

Here's my first paper target at 30 yards:

https://i.imgur.com/MwkghJK.jpg

Here's my second paper target at 60 yards some of the time and 30 yards the rest of the time:

https://i.imgur.com/umefb7S.jpg

I couldn't hit very well at 60 yards.

Here's my friend's gun rental: .44 with Magnum rounds.

I shot it once at the end lol.

It was a lot of fun. Since I only shot a .22 before, the 9 mm scared me a bit at first. But I got over it pretty fast. But when my friend shot the .44 in the next lane, I could feel it vibrate through my bones lol. That one intimidated me more, but I shot it once at the very end on his target.

I wanted to shoot .38 originally, but they were out of .38 rounds and .357 rounds. They didn't have .45 rounds either.

Next time try a .40S&W
Lots of power, not like the .44M revolver... But it's the most power they could fit into a gun like the sig there in your pics. Sig even makes a really nice one that I have.

Nice. I had someone once recommend a .40 to me for a beginner gun. I'll check it out if I ever go back to a range, which I probably eventually will.

I was originally going to shoot the .38, but they didn't have any ammo for it.

I've never met a moose. But based on what I shot, I'm doubtful that a 9 mm would incapacitate a moose. But I guess it depends on where you shoot it and how often lol.

Why would you shoot a target with a handgun for the first time at 30 yards? Are you sure you don't mean 30 feet? 30 yards is 90 feet. These aren't typical handgun shooting distances.

Lol start at 5-10 until you can shoot an actual group, them move it out from there.

Yeah if it's indoor it is feet typically unless it is a long range one for rifles.

Anyway if you plan on doing this a lot to get better, don't waste money on the cool human silhouette targets yet and just shoot at regular bullseye target. You can get ones that contrast with orange when you shoot them so that you can see your hits easily without bringing the target back and checking

It looks like you're shooting like "let's see about headshots, now toroso shots" when you should just focus on seeing how many shots you can put right on top of one another.

Yeah, I was trying a bit to keep hitting the same spot, but I was mostly just going for head and torso shots. I was trying to hit the hand holding the gun in the one where the guy's pointing a gun at you, but I couldn't hit it lol.

I might take a class. I had no idea what I was doing aside from a few minor trips from my friend. At least I know how to load a magazine, put the magazine in, make sure it's clear when it's empty, release the magazine, and reload the magazine now lol.

I've seen it done many times on YouTube, but I had never done it before myself.

Yeah, my friend's Magnum rounds for the .44 came out to like $62 after tax. I think my 9 mm ammo came out to about $32 after tax. If we didn't have the groupon deal, we would have also had to pay for the gun rentals, the lanes, etc.

Of course, it's cheaper if you already own your own gun, safety equipment, etc. But they make you buy the ammo at the range. So I can see how this hobby can get expensive.

It's definitely not something I'll do all the time, but I definitely want to do it again eventually.
