The references, the blood and gore, the cinematography, the music, the sound design...hnnng!

I loved every second of it. There's also a ton of Easter eggs as well!

Supposedly Ash shows up during one of the audio recordings, and says "IT'S CALLED THE BOOK OF THE DEAD FOR A REASON!"

On first and only viewing so far, I didn't like it so much. I like that its a family and yea it would be hard to see a family member turn and kill them but the family is so unlikable. I couldn't even remember any of their names. There was no hesitation for the main girl to kill her sister and no inner conflict. Also the neighbor deadites were underused. Loved the call backs though. Henrietta pizza, Fonda tree service, the eyeball, dead by dawn. The mom did an awesome job as a deadite though. She killed it. And the last monster was lame.

Well, Bruce Campbell officially retired from the role, but has gone on record saying he'll do one more if Raimi is involved...

That being said, this is more a soft reboot than anything. A time-displaced Ash appears during a record set in the 20s yelling about the Necronomicon. They also make mention how there's 3 volumes, which makes sense as there's one from the OG films that Ash kept safe, one from the 2013 movie, and this new one. Which also means all 3 books in Army of Darkness were volumes of the Necronomicon.

I liked it. Too many people hesitate, I liked how there was very little hesitation beyond when the fucked up stuff was happening. Though, to be fair, she doesn't start doing anything until her sister stabs her in the fucking hand! Before that she was trying to help her.

Eh, it was ok--all the goofy comedy of the earlier films was gone and it just felt off cause of it

I want to see this as a fan but it looks like a possessed mom torturing her children and that's like a big no for me. I don't want to watch little kids get messed up. Like, can someone confirm the movie's not focused on hurting children? Because I'll watch it if that's not the case. Just speaking from childhood trauma here--as much as I want to watch this that's a total no go for me.

It's alright. Not as good as the 2013 remake. Expected more from Evil Dead in the City.

2013 remake has a ton of black comedy like the OG ED1. Like the part where Natalie cuts off her arm, thinking the deadite shit is spreading on it. Mia is saying not to do it, then begins laughing when she does. You later see Natalie, proclaiming she stopped it from turning...and you see her arm was fine. The book was just fucking with her, and Mia was egging her on to cut off her arm.

I would suggest not watching it if that is the case.

Agree to disagree then. I love 2 and AoD for their comedy horror but the first movie wasn't suppose to be funny as I'm sure you know. It was unintentional because of the low budget. Sam & Bruce said the remake was what they envisioned when making the first movie so I went in expecting it to be full on horror and I thought it worked very well.

Well, there was SOME slapstick. Like, have you noticed every time there's a fight of some kind, Ash gets tossed through furniture? Every damn time.
