African-Americans have been living in America for hundreds of years and still haven't fully assimilated into American culture.
Immigrants are naive to believe there is some welcome mat for them when the migrate here.

The only main difference I can see from other countries and America, when it pertains specifically on culture, is the collectivist vs individual way of thinking. My white friends always thought it was weird when I graduated from college and they kept on saying "we did it!" when it was only me that graduated. With a collectivist way of thinking, everything you do has an impact on your community and family which includes both your successes as well as your failures. So when I graduated, it was a big deal because it means I, in a way, contributed to the family tree as a second generation Vietnamese/French American to graduate from college. There are also negatives to having a collectivist way of thinking, the biggest is the shaming culture where any failures you make is just you being selfish.

Otherwise, the US is not an monolithic country like say Japan, it's like a salad plate of different races and culture. So to say they're not fully being assimilated into US Culture really makes no sense. As long as they are law abiding citizens, who cares?

Who gives a shit? US "culture" is largely garbage anyway, other than movies, music, and food (and even then...). Just learn to speak English and welcome to America.

I dont think one needs to completely leave their native culture behind to assimilate to where they live now. What you dont want is complete alienation from the culture where you live.
