Quick napkin math: Year 15 had 79 users with 2765 votes to spend - 1032 were spent on locks and 1551 on all the bracket songs. So, 37% spent on 172 locks and 56% on the bracket. Year 16 had 87 users with 3045 votes to spend - 1536 were spent on locking the field, or 50%. This year currently has 79 users with 1975 votes to spend - up to 768 can be spent on locks, or 39%. If we were still in a VGMC 15 world where people only spent 37% on locks, this year would lock 123 songs and 16 would've only locked 189 songs! What changed was less about numbers (only +8 users in 16) and more about how much people coordinate. We'll probably fill 128 locks, but what happens after? People have clearly become more willing to coordinate, but I don't know if things tighten up more this year, or how much this even applies outside of locks. Let's say we end with 80 users and 60% efficiency - that yields 4.7 votes per bracket slot! It's the effect of cutting 35 votes to 25. But we're coming off a year of full locks, and the lock rush will set up some 5s and 4s, *and* people are probably better at organizing 25 votes than 35. Assume 85 users and 70% efficiency - that's a more conservative 5.8 votes per bracket slot. I'll guess we end somewhere around the mid-5s? Again it all depends on how much people concentrate their votes - 85 users can get the threshold to 8.3 votes per bracket slot, if they pool their votes perfectly! In the end, I can't say how willing we are to give up low-vote noms for high-vote noms this year. --- Sometimes you just need a separate account for statsposting.
