car prices should theoretically go down if they're not building 3-5 different models of the same car.

buying a fancier model Mercedes would probably cost an extra 60-90/mo over a base model anyway. it's not like you can go and buy a Hellcat for the same price as a base Charger

Dude. They're still selling you the higher end car. The fact that some of its power is locked off doesn't mean it doesn't cost the same amount to manufacture.

but isn't the speed controlled electronically and not by what different mechanical parts are capable of outputting?

having 5 different assembly lines or changing between 3-5 of them to manufacture different cars would be much more expensive than uniform lines

The entire problem is that the speed is being limited electronically. Normally you'd pay more for a machine with more expensive parts. But now they're giving you those parts at variable prices and arbitrarily locking their full potential behind a paywall. You don't own what you purchased.

There should be a free to play model with ad sponsors. Maybe the user can watch 5 min of ads before driving, etc.
