For 3D, most likely. They understand ho to make better 3D games in general, and could probably adapt ideas they have to fit Sonic.

For 2D, probably not, as Sega decided to just let the passionate fans make those. Best decision they've ever made.

Without even looking at this video I can tell it's probably something bashing the soundtrack, the friends, the storylines, basically everything people hate about Sonic to begin with.

Honestly, if Nintendo owned Sonic nothing would change people made up their minds about Sonic a long time ago and will never change their opinion on ole blue ever it's to cemented to despise his very existence

One thing Sega of the 90s never anticipated is that Sonic's speed really requires being locked onto a 2D field. You can have moments in a 3D game that "launch" you at full speed, but it's not like a player can realistically control a super fast Sonic in a fully 3D environment.

They didn't know when they created him with an emphasis on speed that the 3D era was just a short five or six years away.

They bashed the friends, the bugginess, the trend-chasing, and the edgy rival.

Obviously Nintendo would make better Sonic games than all the horseshit 3D ones. Theyd make better 2D ones too, since all Sega can do there is try to emulate the Genesis games. Nintendo would come up with some interesting new idea.

They'd probably ignore him in favor of more profitable franchises like what happened to Starfox, Donkey Kong, and F-Zero

So no

Idk Sonic is pretty popular compared to those. Maybe Donkey Kong comes close.

I don't agree with this. Cloudbuilt has some pretty fast 3D platforming and parkour and it's handled extremely well.

The big differences seem to be the jumps are very floaty compared to Sonic.

Mania and Origin were the most successful Sonic games how the hell is Nintendo gonna beat that when that's the only universally acceptable Sonic in the eyes of the gaming world?

Origins is definitely not successful with how rushed it was and the fact their releasing a "plus" edition shows they are trying to remedy the failure they dropped last year

Also it's not the 90s anymore, Sonic isn't only good in 2D you tool

They had temporary exclusivity during the Wii U era. Came out with a few exclusive games that were somewhat well regarded back then including Sonic colors and one more that had old school and new school Sonic in the same game. Forget the name though.

Sonic Lost World is pretty much what would happen if Nintendo developed a Sonic game.

Nintendo would probably just utilize him as a permanent guest character in all of their major franchise titles (smash, kart, party, golf, tennis, etc). Which, honestly, would probably be the right call. Let the character cool off for a decade or so and then revisit the idea of a Sonic game after that.

Pretty moch. They would make 1 or 2 games for Sonic and if the sales aren't amazing, he'll get benched too.

That's true. SEGA keeps making Sonic games because it's their most profitable franchise.
