I love anime and consider it better than a lot of Western entertainment, but outside of certain series, this is absolutely wrong. Most anime is extremely trope-y and shallow, but the anime that is good is REALLY good.

3/10 movie, loved it

I like how it solved nothing, it is interchangeable with the first movie.

Are people saying its 8/10, 9/10 just to piss off TC as tradition on gamefaqs or is it really good?

I loved the first one at the time. Watched it 3 times at the cinemas and a few more times when it came out for TV.

But for some reason, I have no urge to watch this second one at all.

Once you've weeded through the literal hundreds of shows worth of yearly shovelware the two end up about even in my opinion tbh.

With even most of the popular ones of the bunch not amounting to anything particular special or great.

Magical Girl Site, In Another World With My Smartphone, A Silent Voice, Darling in the Franxx,

I had an enjoyable time with it.

It's not the most groundbreaking thing in the world, but the visuals were on point (of course) and the characters had a bit more depth than they did in the first.

I was one of those people who thought Avatar had lost all relevance by this point and wouldn't make nearly as much money as James Cameron was hoping.

I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong, it was an enjoyable to watch movie. I'd probably give it at least 8.5/10.

I actually liked Way of Water better than the first one, mostly because the climatic fight was actually engaging and a bit creative. And nowadays it's hard to get a more repulsive villain archetype than poachers / whalers (especially when they're hunting awesome sentient space-whales), so it was more cathartic to see them get their comeuppance than a simple pack of stock military goons. Still can't say I'm a franchise fan per se, but 2 at least it felt like it had a spark of magic that was all but absent in the first one.

I'm still trying to decide which character trope is a more obvious death sentence: the soon-to-be-jilted romantic rival of our hero (Avatar 1), or the bland straight-arrow older brother who's fated to die so that the irresponsible rebel younger brother can step up and be a man (Avatar 2).

85% of anime is shit compared to Way of Water. The movie fucking rocks

8/10 is probably the best score to give the movie. Obviously, the most impressive thing about the film is the Imax 3D and how you basically get the best theater experience out of it. I'm literally immersed and transported into another world, something I can't say about any other movie. Hell, I tried to watch Quantumania in Imax 3D and it's just night and day how terrible it looks in comparison. I was in love with the environments and how the characters interact with it. I just want to know more about the this world now. And not to mention the fight choreography was pretty damn decent as well. Even when it took place at night, I was still able to follow along and be impressed how well the cgi blended with any of the practical effects.

Of course it has a lot of stupid like characters and their motivations, weird edits that cut a scene short, dialogue that felt like grade schoolers wrote, and the third act underwater scene that was dragged out soo long. Not to mention, like someone else said, barely anything felt like it got accomplished.

But for what it was trying to do right, I think it succeeded at it. Looking forward to the third film.

It was pretty fun. Well done characters, gorgeous scenery, and fun action scenes. Not the best ever but worth watching, especially in 3d.

Haven't seen the original since it was in theaters so it's hard to compare, but I think I like the new one better.
