we had to help others evacuate to our house by boat because they were getting flooded, but my whole life we've hunkered down during hurricanes and shit ourselves

Luckly no, but I do remember when I was on high school a village near me had an one, people in my school actually lived there. Luckly there was no property damage, except some scotched lawns. People were worried, and i remember a girl coming into one of my classes crying thinking her house burnt down. I dont blame her, but luckly nothing did happen.

Well, when there was a wildfire in the area in 2018 they told us to leave, but since my dad wasnt going, neither was I. I think thats what contributed to his death 20 days later, along with him being over 80 years old. Mom wasnt home at the time. It didnt do any damage to any buildings but we had to replace fences.

Yes I lived in Florida when Hurricane Floyd came through. We ended up just staying home, most the people who tried to leave just got stuck exposed on the highways and we got to stay in and play dreamcast

hey, that reminds me...

one of the tiny villages I lived in had a tornado/air raid siren on a small hill... they'd set it off every day to mark when it was noon.

Seemed normal to me, but is that actually weird or no?

No, but came close a couple of times because of idiots starting fires in the heat of summer and we were packed just in case.

Every day is weird: what's so important about noon? Was there some big industry there such that that marked the shift change? Once a month seems like (more than) enough.

Anyways, no, mandatory evacuations aren't a Minnesota thing. Our freeways get shut down by snow sometimes and we CAN'T leave small towns for a day or two (particularly in the southern part of the state) but the Twin Cities just keep rolling. Except for all the cold days kids get now. In MY day...!

When everyone hides in the basement for tornados I like to go outside and feel the breeze. It's not dangerous until it is.

That basically happened to me in 2019. The carbon monoxide detector at work was reading distressingly high and they ended up calling the fire department.

nah

been through plenty of tornado warnings and there was a tiny earthquake in SF but nothing major, wildfire made the city look like Blade Runner and needed to wear a mask and goggles but no emergency for an evacuation

one major reason I chose Scotland as a place to move to though was climate change and extreme weather outlooks
