In the US, a lot of people will do things to intentionally draw police attention without breaking any laws. Then they record the encounter to inform the public about the rights they have.

For instance, one guy walked onto a police parking lot and started recording the insides of police cars. This is definitely legal in the US, since the area was publicly accessible. However, he was in the village of Larchmont, which has a village code that forbids filming on public property. So when the police at the station come out to tell him to stop filming, he challenges them to arrest him. Then he'll be able to fight the arrest in court, and get it overturned since it was done for an unconstitutional reason. Here's the video:

Do other countries do this? The US has constitutionally-protected rights that enable this sort of activism, and it's got a population that can universally afford smartphones. I feel like in most countries where you'd want to film the cops, you probably can't film them, and you should probably just pay them off anyway.

That's really interesting, what rights do you have when dealing with British police? I remember the whole meme about TV loicenses but I don't actually know anything at all about British policing. I am completely unprepared to handle the police in the UK
