I was gonna say nothing really trips me up, but then I saw middle starters mentioned, and yeah, I couldn't say with 100% confidence which ones are mono or dual. Just decided to test myself, and I got Marshtomp and Pignite wrong.

It's ironic that all gen 1 rock types that are not ground are all weak against electric.
this comment made me realise that kabuto/kabutops are the pokemon whose types i can't remember haha. i did a double take thinking "wait, they're rock/water, not rock/bug???" had to check and everything whoops.

some of the ultra beasts gave me confusion for the longest time. id always forget nihilego was part rock before i had a more hands on approach with sumo.

also, some of gen 9's pokemon types, and even a few of gen 8's trip me up by virtue of me not really being as invested in the franchise past few years. and in 9's case, also because the games are still new(ish)

Drapion has always given me trouble because I can't remember if it's part bug or not (I think it's poison/dark)

Oh yeah Poliwrath gaining fighting type didn't click for me.

Was also surprised Lorelei's Jynx wasn't weak to electric.
Rest of her team gets wiped by thunderbolt fairly easily so I thought that Ice types were weak to Electric and that Jynx must not have been Ice.

Lugia not being water is a big one for me, as is Groudon not being part fire (until primal).

The story mixes me up on Groudon, mostly. They're literally Team Magma. And, yes, they want to create more dry ground, but they do so by Groudon effectively giving the sun steroids. C'mon.

Younger me wondered for so long why Fire Blast and Eruption didn't do more damage.

Not to mention it's signature ability is literally just automatic sunny day aka "fire moves do more damage"

It also doesn't help that since Water is good against both ground and fire, Kyogre being strong against it just reaffirmed the fire typing, in my mind, and my thought process stopped there.

Also, while not confusion, I've always thought "Sound" should be a type, and was surprised when they threw Fairy in over it, considering so many sound moves/abilities already existed. Pokemon, too. Chatot, Chingling, Exploud line, etc. are just asking to be Sound.

On the same level, I guess Fairy tricks me up a lot, since I still have trouble remembering the strengths/weaknesses since they're not very apparent.

EDIT: To this day, I will argue adding Sound makes more sense than adding Light, since people only ever wanted Light to counter Dark, but Dark began more as "evil/dirty fighting" than literal darkness, and was thus easily opposed by Fighting, which is the "heroic/good fighting" type.

Don't feel bad thinking Lugia should be a Water-type. Even the TCG makers think so, as they have made a handful of Lugia cards with Water typing, while also making plenty that have the correct Psychic or Colorless (for Flying) type. And no, none of them were in sets that had intentionally non-traditional typing.
