I normally dislike YMS videos because he tends to be very very very nitpicky and go on tangents that have nothing to do with the movie, and he still does it on this review, but for the most part he is correct. Granted calling a movie a "baby" movie is kind of inflammatory so it shouldn't be a surprise he gets flack for it, but he is right about this movie getting a lot of defenders especially by people who didn't even watch it. I also agree with him that this movie is just pure references/fanservice and the defense that it's a "kids" movie is weak when we have plenty of "kids" movies in the past that also are good on its own merits like Lego movie being the #1 best example.

Overall YMS kind of goes overboard about others getting offended about him calling the movie "for babies", but for the most part he is kind of right. I still enjoyed the movie, but I'm just not going to lie to myself that it's a "good movie" on its merits alone. Also I disagree with the Bowser singing part. It was funny because it was very unexpected.

His live action Lion King review is *chief's kiss* also.

I heard good stuff about it. But I don't think I can watch a 2 hour video of his because his voice does get a little grating imo.

I have to basically had to force myself to listen. It's a reason why I can't watch or hear Ben Shapiro talk ever, there's something about that nasally voice that gets to me as well. YMS is known to have interesting takes and makes a lot of great points, but he definitely has a personality that I don't think I can sit down and drink a beer with tbh.

I had to listen to some at a time. I'd listen to a pleasant AI voice read the script to the video though for sure.

If it's a review of a film what does the reception of fandom mean for the film itself? It's like when people say a game is "Overrated." Ok, is it Undertale's fault its fans are insane? Why hold it against the game? I wish he just reviewed the film itself instead of the tangent then.

I've only seen a handful of his videos his Old Boy one was ok, didn't like most of the others.

I enjoyed the film well enough, but I wish it was a lot better. I wish we didn't have to defend it with "it's a kid's film, how good did you expect? xD"

Idk why people feel like critics cannot be...critiqued. If you are a movie critic spending their time writing reviews dunking on a film for being shallow, despite that it was very obviously meant to be shallow, you probably don't have much shining insight to provide the world about anything that requires more thought.

Fucking gonna launch my career as a food critic by reviewing McDonalds and criticize the lack of cheddar tuile on my cheese burger and the missing au jus for my frittes.

Maybe begin to write some reviews criticizing the gratuitious sex scenes in porn. It's like these writers have just phoned it in with these shallow plots!

Of course critics can be called out when they're wrong. But with the SMB movie, I think they were pretty fair. Movie reviews aren't supposed to only be for people who are fans of the genre. For a movie like this, they're also there to answer the question, if I'm not a kid and I'm not a Mario fan, is there anything in this movie for me? And the answer is no, not a whole lot. The visuals and sound are great, and some parts are fun, but if you're not enjoying the references this movie will probably bore you.

It's not like critics panned the movie, either. Few critics said it was terrible. Most of them thought it was at least okay. If anything, this just shows how stupid the rottentomatoes system is. If 59% of critics like a movie but 41% think it's subpar, and 90% think another movie is hot garbage, both of them get put in the same category.

It is because the two are linked. He does review the film: it's the entire last portion. It's just that this is a case where the fanbase defending it on the grounds of it being a kids film acts as the defense for his review so he feels like he needs to beat that horse to death.

There's a video of him playing Mass Effect or something and he says that it's morally equivalent to eating meat, then gets into a big argument with the chat over it.

Who?
A YouTuber that TC wanted to share the opinion of. That should be really obvious if you just glance at the first post.

I get it, you wanted to express that you don't follow this YouTuber and don't care about their opinion. But I'm getting really sick of people deciding they have to do this by just barging into a topic and lazily posting "Who?"

Especially when there are already multiple posts discussing and arguing the video and its content, which they are completely ignoring.

That sounds more like them being a vegan than actually into animals. Equating the two morally doesn't mean that it is a "positive" correlation.

Well I don't want to try searching for this shit, but I found a reddit post of his regarding it which would absolutely get him banned if he posted it here, and he's not a vegan.
