He thought they would treat him like a prince and a valuable propaganda asset. Instead, he was stuck in a lowly factory job, where his only social life was standing in bread lines and frequenting seedy backroom cabarets. This caused him to flee back to the US. There was also some files on him that came out in the 90s during the end of the Soviet Union.
