I've been meaning to make this topic for a while now. I admit some of this feeling could just be nostalgia, but definitely not all of it. And I of course have not played every 1st party Nintendo game to compare. But I just feel like they don't have as much soul or effort lately.

I remember playing Yoshi's Crafted World I think last year. I think I only made it a few stages in (maybe 4 or 5) before putting the game down. One of the thoughts I remember having was the music wasn't really impressive. Yoshi's Island on SNES was one of my favorite games growing up. I feel like just about every track in that game had soul from the prologue, to the title screen (especially the title screen), to the stage select. And that epic Big Bowser theme song. >_> Crafted World does not compare at all to the effort of Yoshi's Island soundtrack. Unless it got better later in the game.

Ocarina of Time's Title theme + video had me sold from day 1. The Ocarina songs are great. A lot of the temple songs are memorable and great. Especially the Spirit Temple theme. My favorite theme in that game though is Sheik's theme. That music just evokes emotion in me. Of course this could just be the music speaking to the inner child in me from a pure nostalgia aspect though. But I still think it's a beautiful track. I played and beat Breath of the Wild, but I honestly can't remember any of the tracks. I don't remember them as being not good like I do with Crafted World, but rather I just don't remember them at all.

I had a few other examples when I originally thought of this topic months ago, but I forgot lol. It could also just be that since I'm not a kid anymore, I don't get as fully immersed in the games as I used to which would explain why I can't really remember any of the tracks from Breath of the Wild. Also, I didn't like Breath of the Wild that much. But I did only play Hyrule Warriors 4 or 5 years ago yet I still can still remember a lot of tracks although there was like only 1 or 2 I actually really liked.

video game music in general has been on a boring trend for awhile. its pretty much turning into film score music in big budget games

indie game composers are where its at nowadays

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 still has some good OST songs.

Not familiar with the new Switch Fire Emblem games but the 3DS ones has some excellent tracks in them

then again those are pretty old now.

I actually haven't gotten around to playing that yet besides the demo. My gf played it though.

I was going to play that soon since I got the special edition, but got burnt out starting the DLC of 2 earlier this year. >_> 2 is fucking massive lol. I beat 1 + future connect in less time than I beat 2's main game lol. But yea, I would think the soundtrack in that game holds up better than what I'm complaining about since it's an RPG.

On the contrary. I love the jazzy direction they've gone with Mario lately.
