Oh so you're just deflecting because you know you fucked up lmao

I'm also pretty sure you haven't played Remake at this point if you're still using the "third of a way into the game" argument

Let me spoil things for you

It's set in a different timeline, things aren't going to go the same as in OG 7, the "Remake" in the title is literally canon to the events of the story

Yeah, I definitely know things arent going to go the same as the universally loved classic.

Dunno why you accept this as any kind of explanation for the garbage decisions here.

I'll give it one thing though: people wont be clamoring for a Final Fantasy 7 remake anymore.

Probably means like switching out which three characters you have out at a time. Like if your team is Barret, Tifa, and Red XIII, you can switch one of them out for Aerith instead mid-battle for some quick magic spells.

Agreed. Square-enix managed to achieve a great blend of action and still utilizing the ATB system with FF7 remake, and hard mode really brings out the fun of it since it actually pushes you into coming up with a good materia set-up for everyone and getting use out of each of the 4 character's abilities like aerith's lustrous shield for her and barret's arsenal fight.

I enjoyed yuffie's play style in her DLC story so I can't wait to see what they will do for playable red 13, cid, vincent, and not making cait sith suck all kinds of ass gameplay-wise.

Yes. The hard mode sucks though. They banned you from using items and you can't recover MP when there's more than enough materia to still make hard mode easy. They had no idea what they were doing with it.

Exactly. The game gives you MP absorb materia to make offensive magic basically freebie use. Something like this is something you will never use in the original final fantasy 7 (the OG game is easy to the point where you don't actually need to make any specific materia set-ups to be honest) and most likely did not pay it much mind with the normal playthrough of FF7 remake, but in hard mode you have to think outside the box and use all those various support materia or accessories that is sitting around to come up with solutions. Just increasing a character's max MP with the MP up materia is now a good strat to go with. Equip the magic specializing weapons that each character has, like cloud's mythril saber, for the passive skills that reduces the cost of spells and gives a MP regeneration boost in-battle.

The hard mode item restriction means you have to use more strategy in your RPG game.

People say this and I know the response I'm gonna get but I was doing that stuff in the normal mode. Hard mode didn't feel any different for me and didn't require much more thought. It felt stupid and I'd rather they have just pumped the HP and damage of enemies up instead.

Yeah, think of Hard Mode as a post-game or NG+ mode. Hard mode is balanced around the max level (50) and you'll have access to your entire arsenal (all weapons with max upgrades, all your materia, etc.)

I personally really loved hard mode, as it made me truly appreciate the combat system of the game. Going through the entire game with my full kit was fun, and there's a lot of small extras you can unlock when going through the game a second time and making some different choices. The no bench healing change isn't as limiting as it sounds, it just requires the player to optimize a bit to account for it.

FF7R has some issues, but the combat system is a blast and I ended up thinking higher of the game after clearing hard mode.

Just bloating enemies' stats/making something more grindy and in most cases just cranking the enemy's damage up and leaving it at that has always been the boring and lazy method of increasing difficulty if you could even call something like more HP difficult when it comes to jrpgs. At its worse you get crap like tales of the abyss' unknown difficulty where you deal the bare mininum damage so you just rely on the cheapest strategy (in that game's case free run itself being busted), hope on the strongest character and spam whatever strongest move, and to a lesser extent tales of arise's "you are just wailing on this boss with super armor for about 13 minutes and let me just equip my biggest stat stick to speed this up" hardest mode.

After FF7 remake is beaten the first time if someone where to backtrack to chapter 16 for the shinra combat simulator, go through the fights until you get to the superboss that is meant for later, and get the gotterdammerung accessory (basically "prepping" for the hard mode run, which is going to make anything easier if info is looked up ahead of time) then something like that can cheese the playthrough for sure. Going into hard mode right from the get go and especially everything that comes after the hell house fight was balanced in a way that it was challenging but without having to rely on cheap things like more HP, more damage, bigger stats and thats it. FF7 remake's hard difficulty method of encouraging to use all of your character's abilities that is gears for certain purposes like building stagger, increasing stagger damage, barret's built-in taunt ability, etc., its not perfect but its the kind of hard mode I want to see in any jrpg I'm playing.

I really doubt someone going through hard mode directly after the initial normal playthrough and assuming they didn't read a strategy guide ahead of time to already know the perfect materia setups to deal with what is coming next got through areas like the sewers with the sahagin mobs or abzu's rematch in chapter 14 with all of the abzu shoats all lul eazy peazy on the very first attempt. If this person did, then god damn it I actually would love to see a video of something like that because this is definitely a "pics or it didn't fucking happen" moment for me, lmao. Some of those fights post hell house on hard mode can really trip someone up without prior knowledge.

I just don't understand. If you played the OG FF7 it's not rocket science to figure out what materia pairs are good and break the game. The materia are all largely the same in effect along some experimenting in the battle simulator with the new ones.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/6/5/AAJMZcAADN_1.jpg

It doesn't take a genius to read a walkthrough and copy someone else's set-up for a hard mode playthrough. What I am doubting is you being so good at the game that you went through hard without a single problem assuming you went straight in there without spending hours to prepare lol. Also, most of the non-magic materia definitely do not have the same exact functions they did in the OG game.

If you did do a ton of prepping before playing hard then just say so, but if not then "pics or it didn't happen" is all I'm trying to say. Knowing that its a good idea to have at least 1 max HP up materias for each character with it being one of the most important materias in FF7 remake, alongside materia like chakra and prayer isn't knowledge that is going to come from OG FF7, because these materias truthfully weren't needed in the OG game....really barely anything was truly needed in the OG game, it really was that easy. White wind and big barrier via the enemy skill materia is going to be the main recovery related and protection related things OG FF7 players will have knowledge on........FF7 remake's enemy skill materia is obviously completely different. Will say that getting bodied by leviathan when the VR battle first pops up is usually the first point where people start to realize "well shit.....maybe its a good idea to have more HP" so I can see HP up materia's usefulness being known from that fight alone. Chakra and prayer usefulness isn't really going to come from experimenting or whatever via normal mode's arenas, that is going to come from first-hand hard mode experience.

All in all, I'm trying to see a video of your first attempt at the abzu rematch fight in chapter 14 hard mode because while I can buy someone going "ok, I see whats going on" and getting the fight down on the second on up attempt, I gotta' doubt it being easy enough to where someone can just cruise through it and be like "yeah this whole thing is a disappointment nothing can remotely challenge my skills" and I want to see the flawless gameplay in action.

We are in a modern gaming era in which every single console starting with the PS4 n' the xbox one on up and PC can record clips at the touch of a button and with something like that I want to see it and be amazed is all I'm saying, lol.

Remakes Hard Mode is one of the best hard modes I've played, especially it coming from a Squeenix game who often have the worst hard modes.

It's a bit of a knowledge check + being efficient, dealing with tougher enemies while making the most of your ATB, HP, MP, and materia setups

I hope they fuse the Access materia into the healing materia cuz having it take up its own slot 1st playthrough sucks
