Im guessing the real reason has to do with advertisers.

It was shut down because doing so allows them to continue ignoring the many problems with this place.

Out of several reasons I've seen, I believe the "too much work to moderate" option, especially with one of the mods mentioning they got a ton of reports for things that weren't actually a violation. My gut is these reports were all made by the same few users using their varying alts. The ones who always cried liberal bias and they weren't allowed to express their conservative views. Not the small government or low taxes views. Those other ones.

It got shut down because A) it was a violation of Fandom's rules and policies anyway, and B) it was responsible for most the site moderations.

Honestly, some of the nicest forums I've been on are the ones with a blanket ban on political discussion.

WE need to come up with an alternative. While this place can get horrible at time. I would hate to see it go. There needs to be a place we can go to in case it does go.

Haven't most of the old spin offs died off by now? And really, I can't see what losing this place would really hurt most of us. Hell, I barely pay attention to this site as it is.

The big problem, which have always existed, is the lack of transparence.
One of the first things Fandom said was that they wanted to ax the Politics board.
Which took them almost a month to do.
They had plenty of time to inform us, but no, we had to discover it ourself and wonder before it was announced.
Which SBAllen later had to post about and explain because the announcement lacked information.
What took so long, and why wasnt more time spent on creating a more informative announcement?

Reddit stinks because of the down voting system. I was a sub reddit about a video game. I asked a question about said video game and because I wasn't following the "meta" I was down voted to hell. This place is less Klicky like that.

We take online trust & safety very seriously across all our brands and as of Tuesday, May 16, we closed all political discussion boards on GameFAQs, specifically ones that violate our terms of use by promoting abusive language.

Such bullshit. The Politics board was in my top 3 most visited board on gamefaqs. Im sure advertisers are going to love it when the user base drops like flies.

The politics board gets more traffic than 99% of the game and console boards so I don't know what your point is supposed to be.

The Politics board gets extremely low traffic now.

Do you think Fandom cares? Assuming Gamefaqs isn't getting its ads negotiated by Gamespot, no one advertising on Gamefaqs specifically would be a good endgame for Fandom because they can dump all of their shitty ads that make Wikis unusable into here.
