Yes. Over a decade ago I wrote a Pokemon RBY fanfic based on my Nuzlocke run, with an original story imposed over the events of the game. Called it "I Came From Pallet Town" and posted it on LUE, I made it up to just after the fourth gym before abandoning the project (I think my save got corrupted).

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the story itself is completely lost now.

I wrote a clopfic in 2011 based on a paragraph that I saw written on Ponychan. Published it to the Clopfic Directory which has long since been deleted. I think I still have a local Word document of my clopfic. I wrote it thinking it was great at the time but I remember getting feedback saying it was shit.

I did this, too, at about the same age. Then a few years ago I did a few Naruto stories. The biggest one got over 2000 reviews and 600,000 page views. I'd call that a success.

Nothing wrong with that, either, lol. One of my 'best' stories from the old days was in script format with zany random humor that was popular back in the day. Lost it when ffnet cracked down on script format, sadly lol

Yes, but I haven't actually posted anything online in a long time. I have a cripplingly low opinion of the stuff I create, so I've always convinced myself that anything I made was terrible. I actually wrote a fairly long story years ago (that I was quite proud of) and ended up completely deleting it off my laptop. Most stories I will be content to just let rot there, but I was so unhappy with this one that I completely obliterated it.

I'm actually re-writing it now. I don't know why I ever hated it so much. I still remember most of it, but I'm putting a lot of new elements in. I'm also writing a new piece, but it's going to be much shorter (a oneshot versus a multi-chapter affair). I'm telling myself that I'll actually post both when they're finished.

Also, I write under pseudonyms that are completely divorced from my usual online handles, so no one can ever find my works.

Infinitely more embarrassing is the amount of fan fiction that I read. I used to be quite ashamed of it, hiding it. I think I only ever revealed it to one friend, in middle school, as we had shared interests. In the years since, I would admit that I read fan fiction but not delve into specific fandoms or ships. Even my ex-wife didn't know what I specifically read or wrote (and a few cruel jokes from her indicated that she had no real clue other than some massively broad guesses).

Lately though, I've had some kind of mental breakthrough/down and will kinda freely recommend stories that I've greatly enjoyed. A few weeks ago, I was chatting with a very casual acquaintance and just kinda off-handedly recommended a super dark fic I had read because it had left me feeling queasy and unhappy. I was stunned when he binged it in one night and had positive things to say about it. That led me to recommend another to him (much happier, by the way) because it had deeply moved me. Like, legit left me crying and nauseated (but in a good way). He read through the whole thing and we gushed about it a bit.

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space by gremlinteeth is the latter fic, if you're interested. You'll scoff at the fandom, but believe me, it's an emotional rollercoaster that will change you as a person.

I always miss the "E" rating on ao3 and get surprised when stories suddenly get very... descriptive. I was reading a wonderful fic about a life-changing roadtrip that had only had very mild sexual elements and then, BOOM, penultimate chapter is just an extremely vivid description of two of the characters having a week-long romp. Like, it made sense for the narrative and I don't know how the author would have shown the change in their relationship otherwise, but it immediately changed it from a story I could recommend with some caveats to something that I would have to keep as a personal shame.

there was that year when the Star Wars Battlefront 2 board was entirely consumed by fan fiction. mods got involved for off-topic reports. spawned a spin off message board community. my dad reformatted my computer and i lost my magnum opus. woe to 6th grade

People really hold out hope that authors will come back to their old stories. That's part of why I mostly read stuff that's complete; I don't have the heart to be left with a cliffhanger. That's also a major factor in why I don't post anything online: I get burnt out super easily and I'd hate to disappoint my readers.

What is this AI dungeon you speak of?

AI Dungeon is something that used to be cool but it's been so thoroughly lobotomized by this point that it's difficult to actually get a decent story out of it now.

On topic, I wrote a post-game one-shot for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that was decently well received, and no I don't want to link it here. I also write OCs for Danganronpa SYOCs sometimes, which is usually pretty fun I guess.

I have one story on FiMFiction but it's currently in a non-submitted state pending rewrites that are literally more than 5 years overdue (so probably never happening).

My current idea is a DBZ alternate Buu arc focusing on Gohan.

my core problem was trying to figure out how the world-looping of higurashi would fit with the angels.

really if i were to write something again it would be a mass effect fanfic about that one turian guard and the refugee girl who's waiting for her parents
