If you did, did you enjoy them?

I didnt go to any of mine. All these years later, I wonder if I missed out on anything.

My high school never did proms. We had a grad dinner (which I couldn't attend due to money), and an aftergrad party (not school affiliated).

There were general dances throughout the years, but I never attended them.

Sure, it was fun. Went for limo rides, had pretty clothes, danced lancier, danced with cute guys and cute girls, smoked cigars, got drunk, yarfed on a teacher, danced with that teacher, danced in a fountain, got high, woke up with three people, it was lit.

Junior year I went to a friend's house for a bonfire.

Senior year I got drunk and watched King Kong at my dad's place.

I was set up with some girl I didn't know by her friends but didn't go. They were like neither of you have dates and were tryin to force that shit for like a week, even showing me catalogs with tuxedos and stuff. I played along for a minute then was like I don't know this chick and I think proms are stupid.

My school held prom for juniors and seniors. You paid $150 (or it might have been $250) your junior year and you got to go both years. You were allowed to bring a date who was (I think) up to two grades below a junior or two years older than a senior. So, you could have people as young as fourteen and as old as twenty at prom. Kinda weird in retrospect.

I paid the money junior year. I had fun, but I really didn't want to go (was essentially forced to by my mother). I didn't go to any after-parties. I vividly remember wishing that I had just stayed home and played video games on Xbox Live instead.

I didn't go my senior year. I was extremely depressed (in general, not just about prom). I thought about tagging along with my best friend (I think his girlfriend had already graduated and didn't exactly want to come back for a third prom), but ended up just staying home and crying in my room the whole night. Still a better use of my time than getting dressed up, dancing in a room full of people I felt completely isolated from, and dealing with the issues I was having with my sexuality at the time lol.

I also would have greatly preferred to spend that money on new games, books, or college application fees. I think my mom probably paid the bulk of it (I fundraised some of it, as most kids did), admittedly. She paid for a lot of shit that I thought was a waste, like my class ring ($300 for a ring that felt uncool to wear basically immediately after graduation and that I have lost more than once) and senior photos (where I had a horrible haircut that I was forced to get the day before).

Sometimes I wish I could go back to when I was maybe twelve or thirteen and try to do things differently, but I doubt I'd have the power to change my situation. I would have liked to have a more typical high school experience. I never even had a girlfriend (I did have a secret Internet boyfriend my senior year, but that was a whole thing that I immensely regretted).

A girl in my class went with a 27 year old town cop so I guess there was no age limit. He ended up getting her pregnant and lost his job. I later worked with him in a department store where he was one of those undercover shoppers who looked for shoplifters. Sad turn of events.

Oh wow, that's... super creepy, tbh. I don't personally feel too different from my teenage self, but I would never even look at someone that age with any sort of romantic/sexual intent now. It's just weird to me. Like... that's a child. I felt like an adult at the time, but I was a child.

Ours was cancelled due to a lack of people wanting to go. This was largely due to it having been around 25 for the last however many years, and then when it was our turn the price went up to 140 for reasons that were never explained.

Many couldnt afford it. Many of those that could either didnt want to go that badly or decided not to for various reasons.

The guy was a total loser anyway. He offered to get me drunk when I was working at a gas station in town when I was 16-17. He'd hang out there before closing and eat free ice cream and shit. I hear the girl's father punched him in the face when he found out she was pregnant. Wish I saw it.

Jesus Christ. It blows my mind to think about that. I bet the age limit at my prom was so that you couldn't bring a date who could legally buy booze.

No I went to a teen scene once, it was extremely lame. I don't know what I was expecting but it was chaperoned (of course). I think I played ping pong and maybe drank a coca cola from the vending machine that I paid for. That was too long ago. I think by the time there was home coming and proms I was just thinking these school events felt so lame that I wasn't going to even think about going to a prom ever. I wish I had more school spirit because there were clubs and things that were probably cool. I I went to a recycling/ecology thing with a friend once and it wasn't awful felt like I was helping the earth but generally I had no school spirit for some reason.

I didn't dislike school and I got Bs and I wasn't popular but that was fine and I still had some ppl I hung out with, but yeah there some of my memories, hazy as they are.

Went to both junior and senior proms without a date. Didn't need one, enjoyed myself anyway.

I even got voted prom king, for reasons that confound me to this day. My best guess is that people saw me without a date and gave me a sympathy vote because they assumed I wasn't having fun, which seems just a little presumptuous to me, but whatever.

Something like what Buzzkilljoy said, I know I hung out with some friends and we were all like, glad we are doing this and not bothering with prom. It wasn't a party per se but we probably just played some videogames and did usual late teen stuff that was wholesome enough.

We only did Senior Prom. I went Junior year as someone's date. Senior year, me and my gf at the time broke up like 2 weeks before tickets went on sale. I was bummed, so I decided not to try and find another date. I was asked to prom by a neighbor when i was 20. I declined because I thought it would be weird.

Yes Senior Prom, I was stoked cause I dance with this girl I had a huge crush on even if it was for only 15 seconds
She almost died in a car accident the year before (3 others in the car sadly didn't make it) so that meant a lot that she was able to make it through high school and even be there

No poll?!?!?!?!

Also no. Didn't have a date. Kinda felt like I've missed out until the next day, all I've heard was tons of ranting and complained on how lame it was. Some say I didn't missed out on anything. I believe them because our grad night was also a bit of a let down. Even our organizer admitted it too. No Disneyland trip too! oof..

Edit: I've only went to one dance and it was MORP. Get it? Morp? It's prom backwards... hehe... heh.....

Never seen so many freshman girls getting wild.. one of our senior lads was grinding hardcore. I was like SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH! We also had tons of security to prevent the nauighty things going on.

Also, so many girls were crying outside of the building.. is this a thing or something? Did they see their crush/bf griding with another girl or something? I remember seeing this in Harry potter 4 too (some girls crying) lmao.

Yeah, but now I barely remember any of it. The food was the best part I guess. They played some of the same shitty music they've been playing at any prom/wedding for probably the last like 15 years.

I don't have a single photograph proving I went there either. There's probably no one who remembers I was even there.

I didn't go. I couldn't care less about Junior prom, but I regret not going to senior prom because I didn't want to shop for a tux. It would have been a really good time with friends even. Dating/asking someone to the prom wasn't even on my mind. No job, and parents were conservative and totally against that until after graduating college. Feel like I really suffered internally because of the culture I grew up with and not being able to talk about my parents about girls.
