So, they said they made single-player content a major selling point, then scrapped it after everyone bought it?
Sounds like we need another class-action suit, these companies can't keep promising stuff as a selling point, then not delivering after everyone buys the game.

I played Overwatch a ridiculous amount for the first couple years it was out, then came to a sudden realization that I just wasn't having fun anymore and dropped it. Haven't been back since, and this clusterfuck is certainly not helping.

So if I'm understanding these 2 paragraphs correctly...

When we launched Overwatch in 2016, we quickly started talking about what that next iteration could be. Looking back at that moment, it's now obvious that we werent as focused as we should have been on a game that was a runaway hit. Instead, we stayed focused on a plan that was years old. Work began on the PvE portion of the game and we steadily continued shifting more and more of the team to work on those features.

Things rarely go as planned in game development. We struggled to find our footing with the Hero Mission experience early on. Scope grew. We were trying to do too many things at once and we lost focus. The team built some really great things, including hero talents, new enemy units and early versions of missions, but we were never able to bring together all of the elements needed to ship a polished, cohesive experience.
They started working on this stuff all the way back in 2016. And they never got it working well? How does a AAA developer drop the ball that damn hard? This makes them look worse, not better.

Consider that Overwatch was made out of the corpse of Project Titan and you have your answer. They just plain didn't have someone around to stop them from "oh I've got to add that awesome thing" before finishing the other stuff.

I'm going to be honest here... I don't think its the fault of the Blizzard team. I think its the fault of one Bobby Kotick. He's been known to be an ass behind the scenes that has prevented things from being realized even if its complete. I think it was Rialto, or maybe it was Havana where the map was complete a few seasons before being launched, but he put the brakes on it, or at least that's what a former employee spoke out about.

I think Aaron Keller shouldn't be blamed for the PVE mode failing. If his team was given proper support and given the opportunity to hire on a team of 10 people to solely work on the PVE experience, he wouldn't be putting out this explanation of why it failed. Hell, if they had that option they could have brought in former Gearbox employees to work on the PVE mode, as they have experience with games like Borderlands 2 and the original Half-Life.

This may sound kind of conspiracy theory like, but they were never gonna add a PvE mode. The PvE mode was an excuse to push Overwatch "2", which is just Overwatch with a cash shop attached
