How would you cash it in?

Seems like you'd have to explain to someone where you got a golden broom or shoe.

Couldn't you just turn rocks into gold and then not have to explain shit?

I'd get a bunch of aquarium gravel and convert it. Anyone asks where I got the gold I'll just mutter something about a family mine.

Well that's practical. I think you would still have to be careful. You obviously couldn't show up with dozens of extremely expensive pieces of jewelry and not seem suspicious if you don't have a reason to have them.

You can buy bricks, and then boom, gold bars.

No need to explain innocuous slabs of metal.

I think gold found in mines has to be refined to get out the rock and stuff. Solid gold gravel would be a red flag

I guess cheap jewelry could work if you dealt with shady people. It would all be 24 karat

I've seen youtubers turn gold ore into rings and just otherwise 24 karat gold.

Gold bars need to be stamped however, so I'd probably get some clay and make little gold nuggets to sell. Say that I got them from my great grandfather or something. Along with rings and some other somewhat common things that are fairly regular, or that I could make up a believable story around.

Once I had enough money from that, I could probably buy the rights to a mine, or even just some sort of business dealing in gold and regularly supplant my business with large amounts of gold.

Just say it's from Fullmetal Alchemist and you won't have to give that bitch credit for anything.

Pretty sure you'll have to be able to explain where the gold came from, because the feds will be onto you (probably thinking it's a laundering scheme for organized crime, terrorist organizations, etc etc) if it's any appreciable amount.

"Yeah, I found a few gold coins in my grandpa's chest".... sure, that'll pass.
"Yeah, I found a few tons of gold bar in my dead aunt's cookie jar"... not so much.

Not since 1975, but if you're moving a large amounts of gold... the feds will definitely be curious for highly likely criminal activity.

Of course, in this case it won't be (since there's no law against using magic to turn stuff into gold)... but you'll probably end up dead in an unfortunate accident or drug overdose and the stone was never there wink wink.

I guess there's always pawn shops? Like travel around with your loot and hit every shady looking pawn shop you can find.

Or black market. Take way less than market value and let them deal with it

It originally was an actual medieval European legend. If I remember right, it would transform stuff into gold but also probably the bigger perk is it made the user immortal
