I don't think I've ever met a Republican that actually knows what socialism means.

This is a consistent application of their belief that the world should serve themselves, and not groups deemed "other."

There's a reason so many opt to become politicians.
So they can get some of that there precious socialism.

This. It's socialism when it's other people. It's "what they're entitled to" when it's them. Being "entitled" is also ok when it's them.

Conservatives are usually the biggest hypocrites in general. People on welfare or other gov benefits are "drains on society" unless it's them. Abortions are bad unless it's their wife/daughter/mistress or themselves getting one. Everyone must follow The Bible to the letter unless it's them. et cetera et cetera.

I wonder what they call all those donations to the killer on the subway.

I have seen republican politicians worship Hungary for obvious reasons while ignoring that Hungary also has Universal Health Care.

Very few Americans know what socialism is period. They just know the Russians did it and Russia is bad, therefore socialism is bad.

One of my older coworkers is seeing the worse of it now. He was saying he didn't want to be socialist a few years ago, but now that his medical bills are piling up, he's talking about how good it is in those countries with universal healthcare.

"We're in the best country ever!"

*has to go to the hospital*

"This is why you have to pull yourself up by the boostraps and get yourself a good job with great health insurance!"

*surgeon isn't in-network*
*receives bill that wipes out life savings*

Conservatives also oppose tax payers making college affordable for everyone because that's socialism and socialism is bad. These same people demand tax payers fund voucher programs so they can send their children to private Christian schools.

So does Israel, but they would never speak ill of Israel. Well, half of them wouldn't. The other half was marching down the streets of Charlottesville chanting "Jews will not replace us."

I occasionally see conservatives point to Venezuela as proof that socialism doesn't work while ignoring the fact that the poorest country in the western hemisphere is Haiti, a capitalist state.

They also ignore the fact that developed countries with socialized medicine spend far less per capita on healthcare than we do and have longer life expectancies than we do. Conservatives have a remarkable ability to ignore facts that don't align with their worldview.

Many modern conservatives think highly of Russia these days. They're particularly enamored with Russia's "masculine" army. You know, the army that's spent the past 14 months committing war crimes in Ukraine. They really like Russia's army.
