saw it yesterday. cool nintendo references. for some reason it seemed kind of half baked to me though. never explained where peach was from, pointless flashback story that went nowhere. dk character wasnt really developed much, just kind of there doing seth rogan lines. i guess it was as good as a major mainstream cg animated movie can be these days. the weird nihilistic star sprite whatever thing joke never landed for me and they kept banking on that over and over again. annoying how they used a really generic soundtrack (can we retire mr blue sky for movies?) visually it nailed it with all the references though

Could have been worse

It was above average for a video game movie, but at the end of the day it was pretty obviously a movie for kids and in regards to Peach's origins I got the feeling they were laying breadcrumbs for a sequel

That was pretty much all it needed to be. Like Sonic, the first movie served as a proof of concept. If it was successful and sequels were in the cards, that is where they could begin going deeper with the lore.

However, it massively succeeded at what it was supposed to. Just a fan service movie. And it that regard it was amazing. The sheer amount of effort and the amount of fan content they squeezed in there was crazy.

i like how the donkey kong fight felt like a smash bros fight/stage

Do we really need to know which game universe baby Peach accidentally fell into a warppipe from?
Leaving it open means that they can tie other Nintendo movies into it.

The critic reviews were honestly pretty accurate. Not a bad movie at all but a simplistic story and characters (though honestly it's Mario, what do you expect) carried largely by its tons of references and excellent soundtrack.

My kid and I enjoyed it.

I've noticed that people who like this movie are really weird about other people not liking it as much as they did.

This, it was a 7 at best. Hope they ditch illumination for the sequel, couldn't stand some of their choices like the random dog scene at the beginning or the use of real world music when the series is chock full of awesome tracks.

It's nice to see everyone with bad opinions in the same topic. Like a meeting of the minds.

the dog scene was really weird, didnt feel very "mario"

I haven't seen it, not my thing, that's my opinion. I'm okay with people having a different opinion, especially on something so trivial.

thats everything related to nintendo on this website. been that way for awhile unfortunately. you have to love everything about it or else youre a picky icky meanie

I just dont really know what people expected tbh

My theater was dead quiet throughout the whole movie but they clapped at the end too. I kinda view it like the Sonic movies. Just straight up kid's movies with very little humor that adults can enjoy. At least the Mario movies had a lot of references to the game. The story felt half baked but it's a kids movie so whatever.
