PLEASE dont come in to tell me not to buy an EV if you do not own one. Thats not what Im asking for. Im most likely getting one, its just a matter of which.

my bf has a 3 and I just test drove the new X a few days ago. It was a really cool vehicle but a little too expensive.
Im interested in a crossover/suv/ something with cargo room (a bunch just came out this yr so thats fun!), or else Id be pretty easily persuaded into a 3.
So far Ive test-drove the Ioniq 5 and 6, Mach-e, ariya, bolt, solterra, and Tesla X all of 2023.

My bf has a 3 that I drive/ride in more often than I drive my own car due to fuel costs, hence my decision to get my own EV. Ive experienced far more aggression from taxis against my normal car having an Uber sign in the window than anything against the Tesla. Interesting that you have that experience, something to consider for sure.
Im not gonna lie, Im less interested in a Tesla but if its the best option then I am open to it.

I have a Model Y, had it since 2020. With the recent price reductions and increased quality, I'd recommend it. I wouldn't have recommended it for the insane 60+k price it had the last couple years or so.

It's held up well, done multiple road trips with it. The supercharger network of Tesla really is a selling point and it makes travel so smooth. I've just heard horror stories of people having to deal with other fast chargers.

And like Krogen said, the Model 3 price is truly a steal. You can get a model 3 for like 37k with the tax incentives.
And apparently a refresh might be coming soon?

I definitely agree that Ive been in electric cars with way nicer features than the Teslas Ive rode in

Yeah you're in luck with the crossover/suv market, everything is one of those now lol. Still have to pay more for less to avoid being yet another Tesla unfortunately.

Not just on price, range, performance, efficiency, charging network etc but many other things most don't consider like charging speeds and cabin filter quality, which is big for me personally.

But if you value more traditional auto features/interior like lots of buttons and less annoyingly reliant on software (lookin at u lack of USS smh) half the cars on your list will do. It's just a steep sacrifice.

what are you in right now??

The questions specifically for EVs that Ive been asking so far have been: charge speeds/adaptability, range, warranty, customer feedback, how long its been on the lot, the salesmans opinion on it/EVs in general. If theyve done EV before, how those versions faired and if they had to do any retroactive warranties is there more I should be asking?
I honestly dont know what Im doing beyond my Tesla experience and knowing the features I want in a general car. I havent been speaking/looking at price yet because its still potentially a month out til I have funds, and shouldnt be a problem once I do (except for a new Tesla X ).
Im a little sad Im just barely not going to make the cut for these Memorial Day deals

I've actually been using the standard 120v outlet this whole time. I charge for free at work and I've just made the 120v outlet work.
I would like to install an actual charger though, seems like a fun project to do. Just don't want to burn the house down.

Hell yeah, free is free. A few of these brands are offering a yr of free charging for the new EVs which is cool. I lucked out and the people who I bought the house from had a camping trailer and installed an electric box with a long 240v cord. We just had to have a diff shaped outlet put on it which was cheap AF.

For an SUV the Audi Q5 or VW ID5 are good. It's a shame the Skoda Enyaq iV 80 isn't going to go to the US as that would've been my first choice. If you want something a bit different, maybe a VW iD Buzz! :O

Id like one but they are all too expensive. I dont really want to spend $70k AUD on a baseline Tesla model 3 and thats one of the cheaper ones. Theres also not really infrastructure for EVs in Aus yet which sucks. Someone mentioned the Audi e-tron but thats like $120k+

Rented a Kona EV on a whim while on vacation last winter and it was really nice to drive. Never used one prior to that so can't comment on others. Regenerative braking is pretty sweet, like a mini game while driving and I finally understand why these priuses are so damn slow.

Something like a Kaabo Wolf King GT or Dualtron X. Maybe a WEPED.

Cincinnati isn't great for biking though so I've held off. Those can hold their own on regular roads but still.

The only other EV I'm interested in a vaporware; Aptera.

We're in this weird transition right now where traditional car engines look embarrassing compared to the same car that's either a hybrid or plug-in hybrid.

Anywhere from 50 to 100 horsepower difference. It breaks my heart to see a nice car only do 140 hp.

Supercar owners are going to be crying soon when even a cheap electric car can do 0 to 60 faster.

The Corvette Stingray manages 0-60 in 2.8-3.0 seconds. New new EV Blazer is going to manage 0-60 in under 4 seconds.

I test drive the Rivian R1 and the Ford F150 Lightning yesterday. I had originally wanted an electric truck and have been looking at them for the last year, just figured Id buy a new car in a few years once they got the trucks figured out a little more, but then my timetable for needing a new car got moved up.
Rivian was insanely cool and Im so glad I got to play with one in person; unfortunately, I disliked driving it so it knocked itself out of the running (partially a good thing, since I logically didnt want to get one so new to market).
The lightning has placed itself in my top list, it was a really good feel and very plushy (the lariat) and I think I only had one complaint about it that was minor. So now Im going to have to look more into if its practical at all to be considering one right now or if I should try to trade in for one a few years down the line. I dont usually change cars often so it feels weird to be thinking that way.

I lucked out and the ford dealership had a used rivian truck, so only that. So I didnt like how it felt while driving, very hard to describe but just unpleasant in all modes except one (conserve mode in ride stiff). A thing that is probably minor but irked the hell out of me- no matter how I adjusted the seat or the steering wheel, part of the dash screen was concealed by the wheel itself at all times. That screen showed your speed and the speed limit, your car in the lane and the cars around it (like the Tesla has on its main screen) so it is a thing that youd be looking at often. The seats were also uncomfortable COMPARED to the lightning. They probably would have been fine had I not just driven the other truck that had crazy comfy seats. Those were really my only complaints so it could be different for anyone else.
The lightning actually doesnt have that image of the car in its lane at all which is probably the one feature I am missing/could complain about.

Can someone explain the whole "Tesla interiors feel cheap for price" thing? Minimal ok, but cheap?

The materials and seats of the Bolt, Ioniq, BZ, Mach E, Ariya, all felt cheaper compared to the Tesla.

The BIGGEST turn off on the interior of non-Teslas are the screens and software. Tesla has a giant, vivid, high res, high refresh, responsive interface.

Any other car I go in is a bunch of tiny low res unresponsive janky mess of an interface that makes me feel like I'm using one of those pre-smartphone era touchscreens. Imagine how that's going to age if it's that bad now.

And my model 3 is a cheap car price wise these days.

Tesla's interiors were fine 5 years ago when compared to the other interior's on commuter EV's like the Bolt.

But now that the legacy makers are dropping cars, Tesla has fallen way behind. The interior of an i4/EQB/Q4 shits all over Tesla 3/Y interior's.

Even the Model S has been surpassed. Taycan, GT, i7 etc. And don't even get me started on shit like Lucid.

The main reason to buy a Tesla at this point would be the larger charging network, but aside from that the competition is shit kicking them in quality rn.

I felt like most of the ones I drove felt fairly smooth, esp the solterra but that one felt like an suv all around honestly. I can see what teep said about the Kona and wouldnt be surprised if the bolt were like that as well.

I agree that while the Tesla interior is not like the premium luxury of some brands, I absolutely think it feels more solid than most of the makes Ive been in, so Im also confused by that comment. Especially the new X was really nice inside imo.
I disagree with interface being bad in anything but Tesla- some are solid, some suck. The ariya, for example, was god-awful imo (mostly the nav but overall as well). But also you arent meant to watch tv on those ones, whereas Tesla literally allows for you to play vidya games and shit.

I've read where GV60 driving experience feels inconsistent. GV70 seems better but it'll probably get a refresh with more impressive tech. It feels dated compared to the Lyriq or the newly announced BMW i5.

That said I plan to test a Lyriq, GV60 and GV70. I want something smaller and more fun to drive than what I have now. I got a Buick Enclave when my son was born because we kept getting big things but we are past that point now, and the Enclave is just too big. That said, it's a very smooth, well appointed ride with good acceleration and power. But its size makes it too much of a boat at times, and it lacks all the modern tech even my wife's Mazda 3 has. (I wish Mazda wasn't so far behind on EVs; they're a great brand).

I kinda miss a sedan. The performance of the BMW i5 intrigues me.

Also I kinda wish I could justify the new Vette E-ray. Holy shit at its 0-60

Nope! Havent done any financial stuff yet, thats all tomorrow. But I believe only American made EV get the full $7500 credit. Apparently Hyundai does an amount, but only if you go through in-house financing. so unsure right now, but Ill update after I go through it!

The only other EV I'm interested in a vaporware; Aptera.

Damn, I had never heard of this, but I'm all about it. If they actually bring it to market and are around in 3-5 years I'll buy one.
