Who were/are you closer to?

You can answer truthfully, they aren't looking over your shoulder.....or ARE they?

Two of my grandparents died before I was born (one on each side). My mum's dad died when I was about 7, and my dad's mum died when I was around 14. So I guess by default I was closest to my dad's side.

Definitely a slant towards paternal grandparents. My brother and I would get sent to their house for 2 weeks every summer, plus I'd see them around March/April every year. I would usually see my maternal side for Thanksgiving and then maybe one other random time over the year. They all lived around 3.5 hours away my whole life.

My dad's parents were much older and way more religious than my mom's parents. We only saw dad's family at holidays. We lived five minutes from Mom's parents

Never met my maternal grandfather.
My maternal grandmother was a bitch who hated men and she died in the early 90's.
My paternal grandfather was a dick and he died in 2008.
My paternal grandmother was nice but started saying racist stuff at the end and she died in 2014.

I was closer to my mom's side of the family. But I would still see my dad's side a few times a year, but my mom's side it would be nearly every month.

I think it kinda has to do with family sizes, my mom is one of three kids, so it is easy for everyone to meet up. While my dad is from a family of nine, so it has to be a big deal to get everyone together.

Sadly three of my grandparents died last year. Now I just have my grandmother on my mom's side, but with her dementia she does not even recognize me

I saw both about weekly, my paternal grandparents are probably more involved in my life overall because they've been alive for a lot more of my life (my maternal grandma passed away partway through high school, and my paternal grandpa passed away freshmen year of college, whereas both of my paternal grandparents are still alive), though I probably spent more time with my maternal grandparents as a kid since we would stay overnight at their house every once in a while which never happened with my paternal grandparents

My paternal grandparents had passed by the time I was old enough to be aware of things. My maternal grandparents were the only ones I really knew, but they also passed over 14 years ago.

On my mom's side, they lived pretty far away during most of my growing up years but whenever we did visit them it was a big thing, talking like week-long visits and we'd go out and do all sorts of things together, museums, restaurants, etc etc.

On my dad's side, they lived relatively close (1 hour drive) but honestly did not leave the house very much. I have a large extended family on that side and they have a large countryside house so we'd often host family get-togethers there, and basically the only time I ever saw them outside their house was when someone else hosted the get-together and they attended it. I also can't say I interacted with them a ton because I had a bunch of similar-age cousins to play with instead.

Neither really feel like an A or a B to me, they're both around just in different ways

My mother's parents are definitely the A grandparents. Two grandfathers on that side because grandma divorced and remarried; grandma herself is still one of my favorite people even though her short term memory is gone and it's led to her doing things like flushing paper towels, clogging her sewer drain, paying $100+ to a plumber to unclog it, and then going right back to doing it because she forgot the plumber was even there. She's still got a great sense of humor and is a very loving and generous person. Her second husband, the grandpa I grew up with most of my life, was a soft-spoken man who treated his grandkids like the best things that ever happened to him, right up until the day he died.

I'd hesitate to even call my dad's parents the B team, they're more like D or F. Incredibly pissy old people who refused to accept things different than they were, raised a shitload of highly religious kids and grandkids who became bastards who do things like disown their own children if they come out as gay or trans. I found out in my late teens that grandma on that side was trying to pressure my mother into aborting me since I was conceived before my parents were married, and my grandpa on that side is still for some reason clinging to life despite being a gigantic bigot who once tried to turn my father against both his kids by claiming we "emailed him to say we were both gay and afraid to tell our parents."

I might show up to his funeral with a slide whistle.

Maternal grandparents for sure.
I haven't talked to anyone on my dad's side of the family since 2003. Last thing I told my dad was "I don't wanna talk to you again".

Never met either of my biological grandfathers, but I knew their stepdads. I wasn't particularly close to either of grandmothers or their husbands, we saw them a couple of times a year at most, and that got much less common in my late teens and on. I liked my dad's mom and stepdad more though. My mom's mom turned into a hardcore republican and she's currently a big fan of DeSantis.

Mother's side more often. As I got older I tried to rectify that and see my dad's more often. Grandparents excluded, my mother's family is nuts.
