Man from Puerto Rico tries to pick up car he's already paid for, but worker at Hertz thinks Puerto Rico is a foreign nation and demands a passport

A cop is called and cop sides with Hertz without listening to what the man is saying. He keeps telling them he's a US citizen but they keep telling him he's an "out of country" customer so he has to have a passport. So no car. And then he is made to leave

It's embarrassing how many Americans don't understand that Puerto Rico is part of the US

Ive rented from hertz plenty of times using my pr license with no trouble at all. Dont know wtf was her problem and the officers rude and condescending tone kinda hurts, cause that couldve been me. I hear Hertz apologized and the police department opened an investigation. Probably only cause it made the news.

My situation doesnt come close to what the Puerto Rican guy went through, but as long as we are piling on Hertz, Ill share a story.

Several years ago, me and a group of friends booked a trip to rent a car from Hertz, drive through several states, see 3 MLB games along the way, end the trip in Denver, and return home.

But when we got to Hertz in the morning, we had the below sign waiting for us in the window. Basically, the sign said Oops, sorry, but nobody is in the building. But someone will be back eventually! It took 2 hours for them to return, and when they did, we gave them our reservation. Only they only had 2 cars available on site, and both had the Check Engine light flashing when we started the car. When we told them that this was unacceptable (we had told them previously that the car would be driven over 1,000 miles) they called a manager who was offsite. With us standing right there, the rep was saying to the manager Its just the check engine light, I dont know why theyre making such a big deal about it.

We eventually had to go to another location several miles away to finally get a car. And the whole ordeal set us back like 5 hours on our trip. After all of that, fuck Hertz. Ill never use them again. And fuck them for treating the Puerto Rican dude like that.

So unnecessary, it would literally take them less than a minute to google this shit and find out that Puerto Ricans are US citizens, PR is a US territory and their IDs are valid in the US.

I usually go National Executive Elite. I'm generally not disappointed at the choices and trim levels.

Tried Hertz for the first time few months ago since they were hundreds of dollars cheaper.

When the mid-tier lot is better than the best non premium lot, you've really fucked up. Why are base level trims without safety features in the better lot? I guess my status means jack shit.

The lesson is to not cheap out and go with a better brand.
