If Hillary won I wouldn't have been proud, just sort of glad we didn't get something worse.

Because the win is decided by electoral votes, that Clinton could have won but she got too cocky (this is censored now? Or should I say got too arrogant?) and threw her chance away trying to bluff Trump into giving up on certain states. People told her she was losing ground in the Mid West states and she didn't do anything about it. Even Trump was confused as to how popular he was in Michigan despite being told he was behind Clinton.

Weren't you the one spamming talk about the rules in the piracy topic? Rules say the US president needs to win in the electoral college and Hillary was terrible at that since she chose not to campaign in places like Wisconsin. You need a 50 state strategy.

Anyway, people bring up Hillary getting more votes then Donnie regardless of the electoral college because it proves that she wasn't less popular then Donnie. More people literally voted for her despite the decades long right wing smear campaign against her. That's how much of a piece of shit Donnie is.

I hated those debates because they broadcast a few in theatres. Besides people getting the free tickets and trying to sneak in to other movies, we also tended to have a sizeable amount of moviegoers that loved everything put out by the felon dinesh d'souza. Nothing like standing at the service desk while people people are spouting off their uninformed political opinions at you.

Not really. Just the 11 largest states, as by winning those 11 will net you the required 270 electoral votes. Thats why some candidates dont care about 3-vote states.

What are you talking about? That wasn't a "both sides" things; Hillary only lost because of our outdated and blatantly-undemocratic Electoral College system.

In fact, if we went purely by popular vote like every other country, we would not have had a Republican President in decades.

It doesn't matter how incompetent Hillary was, the tens of millions who contributed to her winning the election (which is what happened even if a 250 year old tumor corrupted the outcome) have a right to an equal vote. Trump being appointed was indefensible and bringing up Hillary campaigning badly is a distraction.

Trump lost the 2016 election by millions of votes and you cheered on a bigoted, corrupt system because you wanted that to happen. And no, "but i'm an independent!111" isn't a plausible defense, you literally labeled anyone who wants everyone to have an equal vote as a "partisan Democrat", you want Republicans to have an advantage and will spit in the face of democracy if it gets them one.

Nonsense and lies. Nowhere did I do that. Stop making shit up.

Hillary's unfavorable rating is 54% while only 46% of voters voted Republican in the last national election. Ergo plenty of the people critical of her candidacy and the weak arguments used to defend it aren't conservatives.

If this was happening every election then yeah, but outside of Florida's foul play in 2000 rarely does anyone lose the EC despite winning the popular vote. If it almost never happens then the times it does are on something other than the rules, either someone cheated (2000) or the candidates were just so shit that an anomaly happened (2016).

The US has set established rules for elections everyone knows before they stsrt their campaign. Hillary did not win/Trump did not lose in 2016 based on those rules, and any attempt to weasel around it is the weak desperate move. You're projecting your own patheticness.

Its very easy. People were very politically unengaged in 2016. Another milquetoast, spineless neoliberal who'd tow the party line was the last thing people wanted to talk about. Trump took advantage perfectly. He was brash, he was loony, he was funny and he used plenty of populist rhetoric.

Of course, said brashness and looniness is what cost him 2020, but its undeniable that he gamed 2016 in a way the DNC wasn't ready for at all. And likely won't be again post 2024.

No, that's not how it works, it is never okay to count some votes more than others because of a system set up to favor rural areas. The fact that you're vomiting up "well the advantage usually isn't enough to change the outcome!" proves you're full of shit about not being a Republican apologist. If you think Hillary being a bad candidate means everyone who voted against that sociopathic lunatic in 2016 deserved to have their votes thrown in the trash after they made Hillary win the election (no, I'm not going to pretend the Electoral College is what matters because of a horrible decision made centuries before I was born) then you are absolutely arguing from a position of wanting the Electoral College to corrupt elections.

Let's be clear, the EC is a vestige of slavery that has been retconned into a big state small state argument. It needs to go. It is undemocratic.

https://time.com/4558510/electoral-college-history-slavery/

At the Philadelphia convention, the visionary Pennsylvanian James Wilson proposed direct national election of the president. But the savvy Virginian James Madison responded that such a system would prove unacceptable to the South: The right of suffrage was much more diffusive [i.e., extensive] in the Northern than the Southern States; and the latter could have no influence in the election on the score of Negroes. In other words, in a direct election system, the North would outnumber the South, whose many slaves (more than half a million in all) of course could not vote. But the Electoral Collegea prototype of which Madison proposed in this same speechinstead let each southern state count its slaves, albeit with a two-fifths discount, in computing its share of the overall count.
