Because it's not down for the prototypical good colleges that have competitive admissions. It's down for schools which accept everyone and rely on a big pool for their yield. Any school with a low acceptance rate is not affected and, in fact, will probably be more of a commodity with the less people in college.

It's not the owner, the CEO of WB Discovery is a huge piece of shit who also put a rightwing piece of shit in charge of CNN. WB Discovery is stuck with a huge amount of debt so they think appealing to the only audience that still watches cable news (old white people) is the way to go. Nevermind the fact that right wing media has been attacking CNN for decades as representative of "the Left" so not only is CNN losing whatever audience it did have with this sudden heelturn, it's not going to bring in any Fox News viewers either.

the POS owner and the discovery CEO (zaslav) are asshole ideologues.

They canceled batwoman "because it was woke", even if that meant losing money. They have been taking stuff out of hbo max and fused it with their shit discovery app and, in Zaslav's words, "HBO needs to appeal more to rural white audiences and less to liberal and young urban people".

Now CNN talks a lot about sports and shit such as "the new ice that starbucks is using", with actual ice props. It's odd.
