If you ever had an imaginary friend, it is a very, very similar thing... but it goes beyond that.

I had a very strong imaginary world as a kid. Made sure to tell everyone that we weren't acting or playing, but existing with them. I was very strict about this rule when we went in our imaginary worlds too.

There is a weird story I've heard. I don't know how confirmed it is.

But some woman had a son who died at a young age. The woman becomes a recluse and rarely leaves her home

Years later people do a welfare check and find her dead in her house. But the weird part is she had a shrine set up to her son. And there was a doll there made to look like him I think maybe. And they found a diary she had been writing in that I think was mentioning some entity in her home, and that she wanted her son back

For people who believe in Tulpas, I think the theory is that she birthed some thought creature built from her grief and memories of her son. And then it was like haunting her or something

That story was making the rounds a few years ago, but it turned out to be nothing more than a marketing scheme for a B-movie about tulpas.

Those of strong devotion can make "Tulpas" a reality.

I myself, have seen it done only once, despite traveling the world many times.

A man, of indeterminable age, but was a Chinese Tajik, and came from Hong Kong. He demonstrated his tulpa coming alive which was a Dragon, that spewed fire and he demonstrated it spewing in a clearing, with only a small tree there that was blacked from the spewing.

Unfortunately, I never saw the man again, rumor was he was caught by a government agency, who had been following him.

Unfortunately it was a long time ago, decades even. I probably couldn't even show you the tree anymore.
I've been traveling long before all mobile phones came with cameras.
