yes, but this isn't about who should or shouldn't be doing art, it's about what is and isn't art at a fundamental, theoretical level. no one could have predicted in the future we could type up "epic best painting ever" on a machine and actually get it generated within seconds and trivialize/patronize the real artists who put in the work over centuries to even give AI something to learn from

I say that as someone who doesn't have an artistic bone in his body, barely a fuckin creative one. I've used AI tools to create passable art with absolutely minimal work.

So, I think if someone can judge what takes no effort or thought it's me lmao

Yeah exactly.
I'd be more sympathetic to the AI is taking our work and jerbs and aesthetic! if they didn't spend 50 years crying about Disney's lobbying on copyright laws while also themselves literally just rehashing Disney Princesses in every conceivable way.

Art is about the interpretation, not the technical skill. If they can't hack it against AI, they weren't artists, they were fucking tracers. (Not in the literal sense.)

And who would have predicted that a urinal could be submitted for exhibition? Or that reproductions of that urinal would be in some of the world's most prestigious galleries?

The debate around what is and what is not art continues. The challenge is sometimes the point.

What is the problem with this?

Why do I have to know the 'effort' that went into it? If the result is passable, congratulations, you made passable art. Do you think people would like it more if they thought you had worked harder?

What if I asked a professional artist to commission a painting and gave him a few guidelines. The lines of whose art it is get blurry.

The effort isn't the point, it's more the fact that I didn't even have to think. No planning or thought, nothing at all went in to it and it was still decent.

I didn't even want to make anything, it was to prove a point to an acquaintance I kinda hate that a degree in art or anything of the like is fuckin worthless now.

Just random bullshit while I was watching Netflix and it was decent.

Guess it depends, if you like the money laundering aspect of the art world it's probably fuckin boss, though.

i'm not knocking AI art because it doesn't take effort or skill, i'm knocking it because it has no creative validity within the artistic ecosystem of sorts that exists currently. it's a tool to be used in place of your own hands or your own mind

i can type up something i'm feeling and share it and say it's a visualization of what i feel, and by all accounts it would be "art" by definition, but there's simply a line people who give a shit about art will draw in the sand, and removing the human element to such a degree is that line.

what art is can only be judged by what they thought art was back then. things have changed, cheapened, diluted to the point that the definition of art itself has become meaningless in the wake of an oversaturation of technology, and people only argue about it to protect their interests, not because they really think they're enriching the world of art in any way

Anyone who completely hates or loves AI at this point is woefully uninformed, because all we have is a ridiculously infantile and honestly barely functional version.

One thing I think I can say with certainty is that most people are fucking sick about hearing about it at the moment though because it's going through it's tech sector buzz phase where they can't go two words without saying AI.
