Seems like a pretty easy case. If there was documented reports of the freezer door being broken but it wasn't fixed, then someone is getting sued hard

the people who refused maintenance should be jailed for years or decades. no justice in paying a fine.

The minimal cost of fixing that door would have saved them the (hopefully) large boatload of money they're going to be sued for.

Corp probably won't lose a dime. They'll let the franchisee take the fall and immunize themselves from it, even though it was probably some kind of shadow policy about budgets and repairs from HQ.

Not only should the family get PAID for this, but people need to go to fucking prison.

We can't just these fucking "punishments" be solely financial anymore. This is gross negligence that led to someone's death.

If you're expecting a restaurant, doesn't matter if it's local or a franchise, to fix stuff immediately, you're sorely mistaken. Stuff needing fix gets either ignored or has a temporary fix until it breaks down again based on experience of working in one. Not Arby's, but a restaurant nonetheless.

But yes, the Franchisee will get sued into the ground. Corporate probably has some kind of umbrella insurance policy that will protect them somehow.

This shit should go beyond a settlement to the family, refusing to fix the freezer door for so long should be criminal negligence at the least. This was bound to happen eventually and somebody was responsible for the decision.
