Not only in my case, but definitely mostly. Although even that's more a few of them that I played a lot.

What shocks me is the number of guys that still play pretty much exclusively JRPGs as adults.

No, but I definitely went through phases. First were the platformers, which is mostly what the NES library was. Around the time SF2 came out, I shifted to mostly fighting games for a few years. Then it went to RPG's from the end of the SNES through the PS2. Floated around a bit, leaning towards 3D action games, but nothing really stuck until I played Dark Souls so now most of my gaming is the soulslike style.

I spent an entire 2-3 years only playing jrpgs. I went through most of the SNES jrpg library and I'd say.... a good 50 jrpgs on the ps1 and ps2.

Not only, but it was my main genre for a good decade or so. When they're good, they provide the most bang for your buck.

Nowadays, my smooth brain finds it hard to pay attention long enough to enjoy them.

For me it was WRPGs, JRPGs, TRPGs, and survival horror. I reallg got turned off to games like platformers from a young age from the insane difficulty of those 90s games.

I still hate you, GameBoy Star Wars and Super Star Wars.

I do, but in the end i still ended up playing JRPG

Looking back, this was sorta the case for me. Played a lot of Pokemon and Dragon Quest. Played a lot of Kingdom Hearts as well, which are ARPGs. But it's not like I only played those I guess, but they were what I probably got most of my playtime out of.

Why is that?

Not really for me. I played Platformers, Sports, Racing, RTS, FPS, Strategy and so on. Though I do think RPGs, when done well, are among the best games of all time.

that's not that weird, adults have less time to play games and also know what games they like and what games they don't and what game they what to waste time on them and what games they don't
so why are you going to waste time playing other games if you like JRPGs and you don't really care much about other games?
does it shock you that there's people that pretty much only play fighters or FPSs or WRPGs?
it's good to branch out from time to time but it can also be a waste of time and money

I grew up playing mostly RPGs for the majority of my single player experience with other genres like platformers and action/adventure games occasionally mixed in. I always had stuff like Mario Kart, Goldeneye etc. for the multiplayer experience when friends came to my house though.

I was exposed to variety from day 1, but there was a point in primary school where I was mainly into RPGs because I had no chance of beating anything else. At the time, I kould beat a number of Super Mario World levels, but never made it past the donut kastle. Meanwhile, FF6, Mystic Quest, Breath of Fire 2, 7th Saga, and Mario RPG had stories to tell, worlds to share, and a difficulty summed up as "just level up more". Don't remember when I grew out of that phase. Ironically, I never finished any of those at the time either. Damn Snes erasing saved data when jostled.

I mainly played platformers and action adventure games as a kid. As a teen I started to enjoy action-rpgs.

Ive Only recently started warming up to non-action rpgs that can be played entirely with a mouse and have turn-based combat. Ive seen ppl call them crpgs.

For jrpgs, I haven't beaten an actual published game in this genre. Played a few unpublished (often unfinished) rpgmaker games that resemble older dragonquest tho. Enjoyed them

Tho The genre I've been playing the most since last year are adventure games. Kinda resemble some isometric rpgs just with combat cut out. No stat checks either. Tougher puzzles tho

Not ONLY jrpgs, I played some Spyro and stuff, but definitely like 95% of the games I played as a kid were jrpgs. Hell I was playing them before I could even read and had to shittily mr magoo my way through them, sometimes I did it, sometimes I ended up 20 levels below the recommended level and got my ass brick walled by some hopeless boss battle. It was great.
