We're going to Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington. Never been there before (I'm Swiss). We take our time and stay for 3 weeks.
Looking forward to it!

It's baseball season, so you should take in a game.

Be sure to stick to your itinerary and dont go to the shitty states. Im sure the US would be a nice place to visit as long as careful quality control is observed.

Boston is pretty cool, the USS Constitution is a good visit though if they try and claim its the oldest ship in active service in the world then theyre lying as its HMS Victory by about 30 years. (Yes they claimed it while I was there snd we politely corrected them lol).

I guess its one of those things where you think I cant say I went to the US and didnt do it at least once.

Kinda like if I ever visit France, I will make sure to eat some of the meme foods like frog legs.

I saw a baseball game in Japan and I loved the vibe. Everyone had umbrellas they raised up and down when someone hit the ball real good.

As far as I hear nothing like that happens in America.

Depends on the city and team

I'm not into baseball, sorry, but I'll consider it.

Other than that, we probably go seeing to the typical tourist places.

Boston: Bunker Hill Monument, Freedom Trail, Public Library, Harvard/MIT, Old Town, USS Constitution...

New York: Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Ellis Island, Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, St. Patricks Cathedral, Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Trinity Church...

Philadelphia: City Hall, Eastern State Penitentiary, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Museum of Arts, Rocky Statue...

Washington: Arlington Cemetery, Capitol, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, White House...

A few more places...

Sounds standard, I know, but these are all places we always dreamed of seeing once in a lifetime for ourselves.

I'd sacrifice some or all of those in favor of some Smithsonian Museums (especially National Air and Space, American History, National Gallery of Art, or African American History and Culture). Especially since it will probably be hot and humid. Also try to drive by the Pentagon, just so you can say you saw it. If you have time and transportation (and like airplanes), you can try to make it out to the Udvar Hazy Center.

Thx for the tips.

The National Air and Space museum is definitely on our schedule. And yeah, I forgot about the Pentagon ^^ We'll try to drive by ^^

You'll need two days in NYC if you want to cram all those sites in.

We are there for 7 days :-)

We like to take our time. Others may see more places than us in the same time frame, but that's okay, we don't want to stress ourselves. We rather leave some places out and stay a little bit longer at places we like.

Good strategy. Nice to pace them out so you can actually enjoy them

One nice thing about DC is that most of the best museums are all at the National Mall and they are free, so you can just pop in to see a few things without feeling like you have to see everything.

Skippable in DC: Any of the Universities (they are good, but they aren't much to see), National Zoo (solid, but not as good as Philadelphia, San Diego, Bronx, etc.), Georgetown Cupcake, Embassies.

If you like monuments, don't miss the Korean War memorial (near Lincoln Memorial). It is underappreciated, but I think it really conveys a lot of emotion, in an unusual format.

I've lived in Boston for over 10 years. I think the Freedom Trail is a great way to see the city. Especially if you take you time to really see some of the sights on the way.

Harvard/MIT is really dull in my opinion, it's just an average college campus. My co-workers from the UK and China all wanted to go when they visited Boston, so it definitely seems like a 'non-American' thing to do. Just make sure you set your expectations accordingly.

Old Town is not a phrase I've ever heard in regards to Boston, not sure what that could be. Maybe the North End?

I think going to a Red Sox game was a good suggestion, Fenway is a pretty historic park and in a part of the city you aren't likely to visit otherwise. I'd also recommend the Museum of Fine Art/Isabella Gardner Museum if you are into art. I also love taking the kayaks down the Charles River, you can rent the boats and it takes a couple hours to travel between Boston and Cambridge.
