If you have the opportunity to get a full night's sleep the day before your baby is due... Do it!

Once the baby is here, RIP your sleep schedule. Most infants don't sleep for more than a few hours at a time. So your sleep will be so sporadic, you'll miss the days where you could sleep all night...

Yeah, here's the fun part, by the time your body winds down and is actually ready to sleep, the baby will wake up again and need feeding.

Also, the instant they finally do go down, you need to play catchup on things like bottle cleanings and eating or showering.

In short, good luck lmao.

I just took some bennies and let the hat man carry me to sleep.

My first chonky was born at 4pm so i was already wide awake and watching Married With Children in the waiting room.

The second one was also at 4pm so i just sat in the waiting room watching All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku on my phone.

Definitely do shifts with your spouse so one of you can get sleep while the other watches kid. If your wife is breastfeeding past the colostrum stage then you cant really do long shifts so sucks for her I guess.

yeah I hear the shift idea helps a lot.

think we are doing a mix of breast feeding and formula for that reason. So Ill still be able to feed him while shes catching up on sleep

That helps. FYI, breast pumps are still a HUGE time sink and a pain in the ass. Im a big proponent of formula.

We are getting sent to a different hospital because ours doesnt have a real NICU.

he is grunting, I guess its a somewhat common side effect of c sections. I guess the pressure of natural delivery usually helps clear this up.

but man, seeing your child hooked up to IV and oxygen when theyve been in the world for 2 hours is fucking excruciating.

I cant stop crying, I feel helpless

They are confident that he will be okay but this is so hard.

Just had a kid about a month ago, she spent her first week in the NICU. Also a C section. They had to make sure she was eating and gaining weight like she should be.

It's definitely stressful, but you should be out of there relatively soon. At his size and weight, it's unlikely for him to stay there as long as premature babies tend to. Good luck

My son was in the NICU for pneumothorax in both lungs as well, I know how scary that is. He was out in one day so I'm sure everything is going to be okay.

Its hard! But NICU nurses are the best. My first was in the NICU for 2 1/2 weeks, and the nurses were so great.
