MK will need to do a couple of things to make it better gameplay wise.

Better battle animations that don't look awkward.

Give us more options rather than taking them away like they did with Injustice 2 and MK11.

Let projectiles clash. This is one of the biggest issues with it comes to zoning in NRS games. Essentially whoever throws out their projectiles first is always going to have the edge. Tournaments are so boring to watch because Zoning is way to fucking safe in these games. No one enjoys a laser beam show or a guy chucking rocks at his opponents while they're only options is to slowly duck and move forward.

If they can do this I will actually enjoy playing their games. The closets I had to fun with them was probably MKX.

Never understood this. You have games like SF where characters move so janky that they practically teleport to new positions without any transitional frames between, then you got MK with pretty smooth looking combos without any teleporting to a new position between them.

Tekken is probably the most smooth out of all fighting games, as everything flows smoothly.

MK animation/art styles/audio are realistic, which makes attacks look weak. A lot of it is meat slapping meat and it not very stylish or flashy in General combat.

A low mk > hadoken in SF sells cuz it's snappy, it pops in color, and it's loud, despite realistically it wouldn't look like it would hurt much at all. MK looks great during fatalities and intros, but combat looks awkward in normal gameplay

Imho they look really meaty and transition together well, you can see the character moving from position to position. You can't say one has bad animations when it doesn't, and just looks less flashy or stylized.

Here's a good comparison video. You can see some weird janky shit, like Scorpion somehow doing a jump without pushing himself off the ground. Then there's other stuff like characters arms flailing around wildly while their lower half is completely stiff:

I mean, yeah. It's a video game. They don't in SF either. That video seems to miss out on the stuff I was saying, too, which makes sense as that channel seems like a channel that would hold a lot of biases given it's SF based.

Transitional frames don't really matter as much since the human mind has the ability to fill in the gaps, especially when the animation is happening so quickly that you can't really tell that something is missing.

What IS immediately noticeable is when characters throw punches without leaning in, or when they jump without bending their knees, or when their upper and lower bodies are doing two completely different things.

I personally loved the customization options in Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat 11, I just hated that it was pure RNG. MK11 somewhat remedied it by removing the dumb stat system so you didn't have to worry about getting doubles, but I still would have liked some way to choose a specific piece of gear as a reward rather than hoping that you'll finally get the arms you want for Jax, the hat you want for Raiden, or the color scheme you want for Liu Kang.

Especially the ones that were tied to online seasons.

I honestly found it weird how much of a stepback MK11's customization was compared to Injustice 2. IJ2 allowed you to apply whatever color combo you wanted to whatever outfit you happened to be wearing.

Whereas in MK11, you were restricted to whatever color scheme was available for a specific outfit.

I like the change ups from the old storyline. Sub-Zero and Scorpion are now bros and Liu Kang is the God tasked with finding Earthrealm champions while Raiden is a young warrior trying to become a hero.

Also seems like with this new storyline, Mileena could end up becoming a good guy alongside Kitana.

The fighting definitely looks less constrained than MK 11. Closer to something like X (not quite 9 but better).

Krushing Blows appear to be exclusive to Kameo Fighters unless I missed something.
