At the timestamp (2:23) with Red fighting, in the party is also Cloud + Barret. In the background you can ALSO see Tifa and Aerith circling around.

So at least party seems like it won't be forced at ALL times. I only hope that super heavy plot moments aren't all forced because like I said, it'd be a shame for your favorites to be shut out of cool moments because of certain cinematics (like you see in the Rude and Elena fight)

I'm a little bothered by the sequence of the events though - there is a distinct passage of time between Zack's last stand & the beginning of FF7 in the original timeline, I forget if it's weeks or months I know it was at least one week. (Intergrade spoilers) we see Zack at the church and I'm assuming that follows the events of the "tornado" that takes out the team, which itself is from the end of remake in the Zack timeline? but he surely could've/should've gotten back to Midgar and Aerith's house before that point, before the beginning of FF7? Maybe I'm overthinking things.

Yeah I mean cloud can apparently do so for years so Zack being the super soldier and only needing 2 months fits the bill

I found the difficulty spikes from normal mobs to bosses/sidequest monsters kinda high on Normal. Like super duper easy or absolute death dealers or damage sponges. I'm grateful Easy mode was an option.

Also, Tifa had the cowboy outfit in
Nibelheim. It seems like an odd issue to get hung up on.

You know, arguments like this is pretty detrimental to your own cause. Its like if I simplified FF7R's gameplay to
"bro I just really need to be able to press a button to bring up a menu and see that this enemy is weak to fire but i could hit it with lighting too and I gotta rack my brain to figure out the optimal play since the implications are so massive".

Heard speculation that it's for the double tech's (and ideally triple techs?) which makes sense to me. I wouldnt mind if it represented "banked" ATB bars but I think that's a bit much.
