Literally can go get a McDonalds job for $16/hr, or go apply for a bunch of benefits (food stamps, section 8, straight up cash even), but would rather stand around, on their phones, asking for money by a grocery store.

I also doubt theyd report any income they get from panhandling to pay any income taxes.

Minimum wage jobs and socialism are beneath them.

Most of them are scammers, there are two women in my complex I see begging every day despite driving nice cars with husbands who make good money.

SNAP gives ~$940/mo for food benefits for a family of size 4, Section 8 pays for 70% of rent, and cash assistance gives ~$600/mo. Add a $16/hr job, they should be fine.

Benefits or a job might not pay as much as begging. Apparantly these guys make a lot of money. And it's tax-free!

Some can't wait the months it takes for SNAP or the like 6 years it takes to get on section 8 after applying. Or worse they live in a red state that has a million ways to disqualify them.

Before I ask the question in the topic title, I also ask if I would hire them for (any) job right there on the spot. If the first answer is a 'no', then the original question is moot.

I helped my neighbors dad apply for SNAP and Medicaid: He got partial SNAP benefits the day after applying as an emergent aid, and got approved in less than a month, with the remainder of his SNAP benefits being deposited just before the next months.

Medicaid took a while to get approved, but it was active from the day of applying, should something have happened and he needed medical aid.

S8 can take years for approval

Housing is the big one here. Section 8 waitlists are in the years in every state.

Man like look. I don't like scammers either. They suck.

But you are very very off base on what assistance offers, how it varies state by state, and how long you have to wait for things like Section 8 to kick in.

As stupid as this topic is I would question things when a begger is asking for money via apps.

Who knows, I dont think such peoples mind set and reasoning for this kind of behavior has ever been expored.

But likely its just a very lucrative side hustle for the most part.

Yeah it's weird, surely no one seriously actually gives these people money, right? How can it be worth the time, lol
