I really like the gothic fantasy art style...I'm sure this will be a pickup for me

Other Atlus stuff getting me down but at the end of the day this looks sick as hell. Really wish I was in a better headspace when it was revealed, but I've watched the trailer couple times bow and yeah this is really exciting stuff! Aesthetically it's somehow both extremely familiar territory but also not like anything else I've seen.

Hopefully it's earlier in 2024 rather than later....but they're kind of notorious for delays so I won't hold my breath.

Time for a small complaint: the full title should just be 'Metaphor'. The subtitle isn't doing it any marketing favors. Puts it squarely in the niche category. Also, Japan needs to stop its obsession with tacking 'Re' onto all their names.

I'm guessing mid-late 2024, especially if they want to put this on Switch 2, which they probably should if they want it to sell in Japan.

I'm assuming it won't be on Switch 1, since it looks to have substantially better graphics than Soul Hackers 2.

Naw they always do that. There's typically a 1-3 day period where most of the 3rd party games shown off at Microsoft aren't allowed to acknowledge other platforms, it happens every year. P3R for example only showed Microsoft but the listing for Switch and Playstation have already leaked.

Absolutely. It's worse than just calling it "Re:Fantasy." They're really going have to go hard on the "From the Creators of Persona 5" marketing.

But yeah it looks good. It actually is a bit more like persona than I thought, which is a bit disappointing.

Yeah I agree it is a little too similar to Persona UI wise and from the looks of it maybe some social link adjacent systems...persona is a great game though so we'll see.

The footage towards the end of that trailer was running like whatever hardware it was on was about to explode. I wonder if that was PS4 footage lol.

There's zero chance they were showing PS4 footage. It's just not optimized yet.

PS4 is necessary if they hope to have even an okay launch in Japan, as PS5 game sales have still been dreadful there.

What? Games with simultaneous launches on PS4/PS5 have done better on PS5 since last year in Japan. An example from last week (physical copies only, and PS5 is more heavily digital, partly due to the existence of the PS5 digital):

The ratio's only going to be more skewed when this game comes out in 16 months or whatever.

Yeah, you're right. The Playstation sales are just dire in general, and PS5 games sales aren't making up for how much PS4 is fading.

Japan is way more into mobile/handheld gaming so its not surprising PS5 sales arent massive there.

Man I haven't checked on those physical sales numbers in a while - those are seriously amazingly low!

They're right in line with SF5 and Diablo 3's sales! And probably with a much higher digital ratio.

Oh no I mean, like, physical sales for the region in general. It's just such a remarkably insignificant chunk of what these games move in totality.

Except for Switch, yeah. Japan's Switch game sales are a pretty significant chunk. Some games do decent on PS there too, like the Crisis Core remake.
