I really hope he ends up with a public defender. I'm actually surprised he hasn't found a supporter of his to defend him, but I guess even they have some standards.

With all the judges he appointed, you'd figure someone would step up, but they probably don't want to touch this either.

Has this ever actually happened before? Even the worst mobsters could get a lawyer.

I can't speak to Florida, but in other states I've lived in financial reasons were the only real way to get a PD.

This tends to happen when clients become problems. Especially high-profile clients known to weasel out of paying their attorneys after the fact and refusing to cooperate with or even tell the truth to their attorneys. Trumpy doesn't know enough to shut up.

If he ends up representing himself, that will be the icing on the cake.

I work for a Pretrial Services dept and I spend a lot of my time in general sessions court and work with public defender's a lot.... It's still the case that if you can afford an attorney you are expected to find one and will not be appointed a public defender at least where I work.

Also just a side note...a lot of public defender's do a lot of really good work and very capable and smart lawyers, just putting that out there for people who seem to think getting a public defender would be some sort of punishment

Thank you for this-both confirming my position as being up to date and the compliment for PDs. A lot of them really do outstanding work for little pay and no appreciation.

When I was a public defender, it was really hard. We were really overworked, and had way too many cases. In the rather short time I was there, two attorneys left for stress related reasons. I moved out of state so I did not leave for that reason, but I think the job is at least partly responsible for the high anxiety I deal with every once in a while.

All that said: I have worked with a lot of lawyers over 18 years. The ones at the PD office were absolutely the best and most talented I have worked with, period. They worked very hard, they cared, and they knew their stuff. I would take them over the vast majority of private counsel I know any day.

Plenty of shit tier laywers have done just that. Half of them ended up in jail, the other half weren't even paid for their efforts, and rergardless of your outcome, your reputation is ruined forever.

If you're some ultra sleazeball laywer, it's honestly better to just find some local drug lord or something and latch on to them. At least then you might actually have a chance of being paid.
