Former President Donald Trump has been desperately seeking new lawyers before his arraignment in Miami Tuesday but hes struggling to find firms willing to take him on, according to a report.

The problem is none of us want to work for the guy, one federal criminal defense lawyer in the Southern District of Florida, who said hed been contacted, told news site The Messenger.

Hes a nightmare client.

They're saying this may delay his arraignment. He'd apparently still have to appear on Tuesday regardless, but they may have to do his arraignment after he actually finds local representation.

I thought one of the requirements for a public defender was that you have to not be able to afford a lawyer. Is that part optional?

You dont get a PD because you cant find other counsel. You have to qualify as indigent using whatever standards that jurisdiction uses. The question is whether you can afford private counsel, not whether you can find it. Trump does not have nearly as much money as he says he does, but there is no way a person with his money would ever be appointed a PD whether they wanted to settle for it or not.

I have been a lawyer for 18 years, and I have no idea why any lawyer would ever represent Trump. He doesnt pay, he lies all the time and makes statements that destroy his case, and your license is at risk each day he is a client. Plus, he has to be the most unpleasant person ever to be around. Oh, and his utter corruption generally. The publicity for being his lawyer cant be that good.

Trump representing himself would be both highly annoying and must see tv all at once.

I spent the first three years of my career as a public defender. It has been 15 years since I did a criminal case, so maybe things have changed during that time. But when I was practicing in that area, the only factor was income and financial resources, not availability. Those who wanted PD representation had to fill out reams of financial and income forms to qualify. Nowhere in those pages was any of that persons search for counsel mentioned or considered.

I assume that if a person were so toxic they could not throw enough money at private counsel, they would have to proceed pro se. The thing is, in three years I never, ever saw that happen. There were always criminal defense attorneys around eager to accept money-and I was not practicing in a big city either.

It could be that Trump has once again broken the system-a rich person so toxic that no one will accept his money and this becomes an issue (although I am sure that moron will find a lawyer dumb enough to take him eventually). But in the vast majority of cases-and all I have seen-those who can afford counsel get counsel if they want it.

No surprise since he really is a client from hell. Has a history of not paying his lawyers, generally seems very unpleasant to be around, is a high risk for saying/doing something very stupid that blows up whatever defense you try to build, lies constantly, and he'll throw you under the bus instead of taking accountability.

I wouldn't want to represent him either.
