Pre-ordering is a fine practice if you know you're going to buy it day one anyway. Lets you spend the money early so you don't have to keep it earmarked, gives you access to silly little bonuses for no extra charge, usually lets you download it and get ready to play a little early, etc.

People aren't dumb for buying games.

I would like to wholeheartedly thank the people who pay the full priced $60-$80. So, myself and many of my brother's and sister's can enjoy it at $10, two years down the line, patched up, and working perfectly.

I agree with those who said there needs to be a low fidelity mode for 60fps. Make it an option. The only way you can get both high fidelity and high framerate on any generation is to just play it on PC, straight up. But a lot of console games these days are offering the choice between high fidelity or high framerate, there's no reason Starfield can't offer that.

Yeah, I've noticed ever since Skyrim that working on Fallout 3 clearly broke Bethesda's design / aesthetic philosophy; damn-near everything in Skyrim, even some of the major cities, are crumbling ruins or run-down shacks.

Like, it was cool from a realistic standpoint that Fallout 4's weaponry was mostly a series of rusty jury-rigged contraptions compared to 3's sleek designs, but man were they fucking ugly, often to the point of not being worth going after.

it doesnt even make sense in the world of Fallout.

They still have prewar guns and you had groups like the gunrunners making guns and ammo.

Bethesda doesnt even understand the IP they bought and they need to retcon fallout 1,2, and New Vegas because its inconsistent with 3 and 4.

It's fine if you feel that way, but the average player doesn't really care about the fps as long as it's consistent. 30 fps is perfectly fine if it doesn't slow down randomly.

These two things aren't really in the same ballpark, and 30 fps is still pretty standard for consoles.

Like it's cool if you're on PC or whatever but clearly 30 fps is still acceptable to a large portion of gamers

For anything that requires specfic timing, higher frame rate helps.

Let's say you have a single frame to make a perfect spot at 30 fps. At 60 fps, you have two frames.

Honestly, I can see how this isn't a big deal to people who are buying it on console. It's not a fast paced shooter or fighting game, and all the combat looks kinda slower so far. It's probably not gonna be some huge issue.

However, I am definitely playing this on my pc with the settings and framerate jacked up as high as it'll go.

60 fps reduces the ceiling for all sorts of visual effects. It basically doubles the available resources because it's drawing half as many frames. It makes a big difference for what's possible on standard console hardware.

Obviously 60 fps is better, but visuals can be higher fidelity at 30 fps than 60. It's a compromise, but 30 fps still looks good.

First of all, its Bethesda so it never has been consistent and never will be consistent

second, a consistent 30 is worse than a consistent 60 which should have been the industry standard over a decade ago

third, just because they keep releasing games like this that are sub-30 fps doesnt mean its not stupid every single time they do so

The GOTY front runner that has already sold 10+ million copies that also has an open world doing crazy shit can regularly drop down to the 20fps mark and most don't seem to care.

If the game is good people will overlook it fine.

I think what really happened here is that the SeS is holding the game back, but I'm just guessing since I don't know how much more work it would actually be for them to get the SeX version running at a better framerate.

Bethesda will be releasing 30 fps games on the PS12.

They can only offer a fidelity or performance mode if the GPU is the bottleneck.

It's the full 1440p on the Series S so that's probably unlikely.

CPU handles physics, NPC's etc. so that's probably what impacts the framerate a lot more than the visuals. Both Series consoles have the same CPU.

Regardless it's a Bethesda game. Someone will be able to mod the game to remove the framerate cap like they did for Fallout 4 on consoles.

Just echoing what others have said ITT but as long as it's stable then that's cool

Now if it were something more fast paced you'd want a higher, smoother FPS but for what we're doing in this game 30 is good

A game at 30fps cant look better than a game at 60fps because 60fps is strictly better than 30fps except in rare niches such as stick of truth. In the exact same way that 1080p is strictly better than 240p except in niches where you are mimicking retro games
