I have had troubles with the touch bar on my Macbook pro and since it was less than 3 years old, I applied for the national warranty/right of complaint rules to get it fixed.

I got a message now saying that since there were no damages to the Macbook, it will be fixed for free and that the touch bar, the battery, the screen, the keyboard etc will be replaced. The guy at the apple store said that once they replace the touch bar they replace the motherboard with the HDD as well, so it was important that I had backup of my data.

Soooo.... my question is: How come they don't do what many other companies do... Just deliver a new product when so much needs to be replaced?

probably because its cheaper to repair it than it is to replace it. if you live in a country with consumer protection laws (not america or china) then you should be able to demand a replacement or refund instead of a repair

It is Apple, they don't care about you. Why send you a new macbook when they can frankenstein some refurbished parts into your mac and send it back?

Yeah, I get that it's about economics, but I wonder why other companies handle stuff differently. For example: I just had drift on a pro controller on my Nintendo Switch and instead of fixing it, they just replaced the controller.

A few years ago (like 8) I also had an insurance case on a broken laptop (HP, I think) and it was replaced rather than repaired.

Why is it cheaper to repair for Apple?

I can demand a replacement if the repairs doesnt work after 2 tries. No worries, I'm sure I will be happy with repairs :) I just wonder when so much needs replacement, why other companies replace the product, but Apple replace the parts.

my only experience with laptop warranty is with dell/lenovo/hp and all 3 of them also repair devices instead of replacing in my experience. a nintendo switch controller costs pennies compared to a computer

my most recent example is a dell XPS with a failed wifi chip, and they replaced the entire motherboard (soldered ram and all) for that one

I see. It is quite a long time since the laptop situation and an insurance company was brought into that one, so they might have decided for an replacement and not the company.

I just had the feeling that most stuff just gets replaced instead of repaired, but I might be wrong. Most expensive things I own don't need repairs, so it might be the case that most of that stuff would get repaired if they had issues.

And stuff outside warranties and consumer protection laws I often try to fix myself.
