The partygate report is in and has found Boris Johnson guilty of lying to parliament and undermining the democratic process and had recommended (if he was still an MP) that he be suspended for 90 days. The Committee was unanimous with its verdict and has a Conservative majority.

The only person who believed Johnson was Johnson. And that's only because he's one of those people who can convince themselves of their own bullshit.

Everyone know knew it would end like this. Johnson is a chaotic serial liar with overweening ambition and meagre ability (he's an effective cheerleader and that's all).

The "no former member's pass" is the buried lede here.

The "well we would have suspended him for three months" is good for headlines and gives the illusion of accountability, but stopping him from still having access to the Commons, and preventing the sort of string pulling, influencing, lobbying and manipulation (and general refusal to just fuck off) that we all assumed he would still be engaging in is actual accountability, pretty much serves as the death knell for his empire and legacy, and delivers a pretty strong message to his cronies and toadies who are still in parliament (like Dorries, who has spectacularly misunderstood what "resigning with immediate effect" means, haha)

She's so salty about not getting a peerage that she wants to fuck Sunak by not letting him get the by-elections over and done with.

She was the fucking Culture Secretary.

It would be comical if not for the fact that these childish court jesters have had genuine power and influence for years.

Reminder that Johnson believes that it is unreasonable to infer that this picture is of a party, and not an essential work event:

Not true.

Nadine Dorries also believed him for some reason.

She's in love with him.

Not joking. Since she didn't get her peerage, she's been like the mistress of 20 years who the family made sure was cut out of the will.

Dorries is so entitled. "I'm stepping down immediately as an MP... wait, I haven't got a peerage? Well, I'm not standing down just yet until we get to the bottom of this".

I'd have more respect for her if she just fucked off, but she's demanding she gets a peerage. Shows just how much she actually cares about her constitutents doesn't it? She's willing to just leave them if she can get a ticket to the House of Lords.

I love that someone can literally mislead the government at the highest level and undermine democracy, flaunting the rules that they put in place while people are dying, and the punishment is that they don't get to be in the super VIP members club for a bit.

Fucking joke

100%

And what's the bet he fucked that new 'youngest peer' and she threatened to go public about it?

British Donald Trump going down at the same time as Donald Trump would be glorious. I have my doubts that they'll receive suitable punishments though.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Parliament will typically dish out a slap on the wrist at worst because the institution's guardians understand that, at heart, their job is to protect its insiders. It's a machine for dispensing patronage and claiming perks, and most of its insiders are there to enrich themselves and their families and reward the cronies who help them do it.

He's not Prime Minister any more, and his career in politics is probably fucked for a bit, maybe permanently.

In terms of politicians in office getting consequences, this probably rates higher than he'd get in most countries.

What would have happened to Trump if it were ever discovered that he told a lie while president?

He's electoral poison for the Conservative party, can't imagine they'd rush to welcome him back if he wanted to stand as an MP again - especially not with Rishi Sunak as leader.

I expect he'll return to journalism making more money there then he did as an MP and he can lie as much as he wants.

The number of MPs who still support Boris is tiny. The local Tory organizations (who select MPs) don't like him either.

He does remain popular with the ancient gammon which makes up 90% of the party membership, and those are the people who buy the Daily Mail.
