Two minutes in, the CGI for this scene of the Avengers attacking the HYDRA base is easily the worst I've seen in any MCU movie since I started rewatching it from the start

Literally looks like video game footage, everything sticks out from the background too much and none of the movement looks natural

I forgot how bad this movie looks, especially coming off the back of Guardians of the Galaxy, which looked phenomenal

I dont remember much of it tbh

How a character dies later seems stupid. Ill wait till you see it to say more.

Also anybody who complains about modern MCU being "too quippy and jokey" really needs to rewatch this one just to establish some perspective lol

Weirdly overhated movie. I think people were getting tired of Joss by this point so they took it out on this movie. It's good.

Easily the most flawed Avenger movie. It carries a LOT of water for the progression of the MCU story but suffers for it. The best part of it is probably the team vibing scenes like everyone trying to lift Thor's hammer, and then Vision nonchalantly lifting it

Vision IMO comes off on a bad start in the franchise. Just anecdotally speaking, but as a teen I was like "uhh who is this dude and why is he red." I could barely follow Thor creating him, I'm still not completely sure thats what happened and the hammer scene, while funny, is also the only thing we get to understand we can trust whoever this is

The PS3 has good graphics go back and see the PS2 and PS1 to establish a perspective

Yeah, that's not what happened all. Vision is an amalgamation of the Jarvis AI, Ultron's new body, the Mind Stone and Banner's+Stark's minds. Thor just jump started him using lightning.

I think it was a failure in marketing more than anything. Go watch the trailers, it's all very dark with a creepy Pinocchio song played over it. And then Ultron is just a jokey robot.

While I didn't hate the movie I was really disappointed it wasn't anything like the trailers. What a fucking waste of Spader's voice.

If Bruce isn't living in hiding anymore why didn't he reunite with Betty instead of starting this forced romance with Natasha

The outrage regarding this line was as hilarious as the outrage over the "he's adopted" line from the first one.
You do get that the point of that line is to convey that she views herself that way, right? Because she gave up the ability to bear children, to bring life, in order to become an assassin and a spy, to bring death. It's not about women not being able to have children, it's about her trauma.

Yeah, that was a weird take.

And for some reason they assembled the whole team to take out a hydra base, a team usually assembled for world level catastrophes.

There's no weight to the movie. It's just them quipping and bickering then fighting CGI hordes. There were opportunities there to really challenge the characters, like have the people in the car perish when it breaks from CA's grip.

I really like AoU.

I was definitely underwhelmed by this movie in the theaters, but I can appreciate it on a rewatch. I think my expectations were so high from how great the experience was in the theater seeing the first Avengers movie. I expected the same experience with Age of Ultron and it just wasn't as good of an experience. Infinity War and Endgame definitely made up for it

He broke up with her in the first place because he was worried he'd kill her, right? And even with Natasha, he's very hesitant about it.

Besides, it had been like five years or something? Betty probably moved on.

It was the last HYDRA base tbf. And I always did get the vibe that it was less an "Avengers-level threat" and more just helping out Steve and SHIELD.

They were dealing with the fallout of the previous Avengers-level threat. They were there to retrieve Loki's staff.

The party scene's great, at least. I love Rhodey shopping his story around until he finds a group that's actually impressed by it. Also has a top-five Stan Lee cameo imo.

I enjoyed the movie way back when (I definitely enjoyed it more than the first Avengers, which never really landed for me), but I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much nowadays.

AoU is also the movie I cite when I'm praising how the Russo's clearly had a direct hand in making Cap such a great character, since he slipped just enough back into dorky boyscout mode when Whedon got ahold of him again for this movie.

Most of the "outrage" (by which I mean criticism, I can't remember anyone actually being outraged) was less about that line being offensive or insulting, and more about it being bad. It's so on the nose, its tone is so off, and it's so bizarre for her to just go there in what's supposed to be a scene of them getting close to each other. And it's such a cliche, women be all about having babies, we've seen it so much in other pop culture where women are super focused on whether they can or can't have children.

And if she is trying to say she's a monster, why would her being sterilized be what she punctuates her point with? Seems pretty tiny compared to all the torture and ruthless killing and stuff.

And what else did she do in the movie? A relationship with Hulk that comes out of nowhere, doesn't make much sense, and on top of that the actors have zero romantic chemistry. It feels like they just shoved it in there so they could make her The Love Interest.

Oh and then she also is captured by Ultron so she can be the Damsel in Distress.

This stuff is all cliche and overdone, and the movie does nothing interesting with any of it. And that's the real point of the criticisms, which I think a lot of people missed. It's not that the line itself is so insulting to women. The line is just a particularly bad moment that highlights a common problem. It's pointing out a general tendency that because the creative process of movies is so male dominated, a lot of times the writers don't know how to write female characters so they fall back on the same cliches and stereotypes, which leads to female characters being poorly written

Which is absolutely the case with Black Widow in this movie. There's no defending how poorly written she is in Age of Ultron, even if you ignore the sexism.

I hated the Hulk/Black Widow relationship in this movie. It felt like it came out of nowhere

The jokiness sabotaged the movie alot in some viewers eyes.

I like how none of the other countries in the MCU control their airspace.

I hated the Hulk/Black Widow relationship in this movie. It felt like it came out of nowhere

The thing about that relationship is that I can see how it could work. They do it so poorly, but the idea of Bruce and Natasha bonding over the "red in their ledger" isn't a bad one.
