Why is this a thing again?

Those devs worked hard on those shitty cutscenes

Because people keep on harping about wanting old game design and skippable ones is far more modern than what people are pining about.

On a side note, more games should have the ability to replay the cutscene like with TLoU.

The logical next step is to force players to watch every cutscene twice back to back.

Every game should have the following:

Skippable cutscenes
Turn random encounters off if the game has them
Speed up (ala Bravely Default (although in this case it's only for random encounters) and Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age)

AT MINIMUM

That Riku cutscene in Hollow Bastion is burned into my brain because of that

Absolutely unforgivable for a game in this day and age to not have skippable cut scenes.

Clive 'N' Wrench about drove me nuts with it. Everytime the game starts up the player is forced into a load screen followed by a cut scene which can be skipped but brings up another load screen. Every time a game is loaded, the player has to watch the same cut scene of the character jumping out of a time machine and into a time portal. This is followed by the camera for some reason pulling back to give an view of the hub area. Once the player enters a level, they have to watch the same scene of the character using the time machine. Absolutely awful...

Fuck Yunalesca I bet everyone saw that whole cutscene at least twice due to her casting megadeath as soon as she reaches her third form.

Gameplay is supposed to feel like a reward. A breather if you will.

I bought a wide-screen TV to play Monster Hunter and I still struggled with that text
and I barely played Monster Hunter, but at least I got a new TV v(._.)V

I still want to know why unskippable credits are still a thing.

Realism. Wish I could skip cut scenes in real life.

If only cutscenes meant just that: Cut scenes.

Drink enough alcohol and you sort of can....

Playing the FFXVI demo, I realized that there are going to be battles with unskippable cutscenes. Not sure how to feel about that.

Fortunately, it looks like if a fight has multiple stages you get a continue at the beginning of the stage you died at, with full potions (tested this with the Benedictka fight). So it looks like if you die you won't have to view the same scene over again...maybe.
