Nearly every person I know age 50+ complains about them. Back pain, knee pain, joint pain in
general. The thing is the vast majority are overweight/obese have little to no muscle and tons of bad habbits like drinking, smokng..etc

I'm just wondering is inevitable to experience these pains as you get older or do people have these because they suck at taking care of themselves.

While "taking care of yourself" majorly affects your quality of life, it's not like exercise injuries have no hand in it.

I'm 35 and I hear the same thing from my 35yo friends and colleagues. No one ever wants to join me for 5ks or even the water park. Meanwhile, I feel great.

With that being said, I'm sure the age has a little to do with it, but lifestyle (and genetics) also play a part. Both of my parents are in their 60s and are fit and healthy with no pains. They also eat healthy, exercise, and don't smoke/drink. My goal is to stay as healthy as possible as long as possible. I'd love to be one of those guys still placing in 5ks in their 70s.

Yeah.

Most 50+ will have at least one old injury, or sufficent wear and tear to have some sort of chronic pain even if overall healthy I feel.

As a doctor; yeah it's just a pretty normal part of ageing. Like, even if you take care of your body and exercise, you're still likely to start to experience arthritis, wear and tear on ligaments etc. Don't get me wrong, taking care of yourself and excercising is definitely a good thing and a *properly thought out and planned* exercise regime will go a looooooong way to prevent backpack, but pretty much after your early 30s you should kind of expect some aches and pains somewhere.
