them,, then the lions could never eat one of them?" if you didn't know buffaloes almost always live in herds. Seen lots of youtube buffalo videos where commentators ask this. Do you have a response to this?

Lions don't usually pray on buffaloes. They are one of the more dangerous animals in Africa, son, because they WILL gang up on you
no iirc buffaloes are they're main diet, the most, though they do eat other animals. The smaller animals are too small to feed a pride of them

Compared to Hippos, I saw a Hippo running once and it was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen those big motherfuckers are fast as hell

And that's generally what the lions go for. They're going after the weakest link.

Because that would be communism /s

Serious answer, they do. All the time. Which is why lions don't mess with buffalo except to pick off stragglers that stray too far from the herd. An enraged herd can trample a lion pretty easily and buffalo have been known to chase lions up a tree for hours after a kill

Yeah many times they are successful, but many times the Lions eat them. Which is what I said. Together, they may not lose a single one

If you saw an injured man, you'd be almost compelled to stop and help -- in fact a healed "femur bone" is one of the earliest signs of a "civilized society", but the animal kingdom is not us.
Most animals when seeing an injured member of their species, is to either kill it, or push it out, or perhaps spend five minutes "trying" to help (lick it, etc...) then just walk away when that doesn't help.

As soon as that Buffalo is injured by the Lion, it is no longer considered part of the herd, and is instead viewed as a liability.

eh, you're kinda wrong. Will almost all humans stop to help another injured human though? esp. if they don't know them at all. Many youtube videos would dispute your claim

An accident that breaks a blood feather can be enough to set off the chickens, and the hens will pluck away at an injured bird until she is featherless and dead.

Even ignoring the injured party is better than what most herd/group animals will do to an injured member.

idk, i still don't really agree. Many many humans are also cruel. Do you sort of put humans on a pedestal above other animals, though?

I think the difference here is that people CAN help each other when they see someone injured and as you said, it's considered cruelty if you don't. Like if you saw someone get run over and you didn't call an ambulance.

With animals, it's not neccesarily cruel, it's just nature. Animals are not civilized and it goes against the rules of survival to keep a weakened member of a pack alive. Even if they wanted to, it's not like they have animal doctors lol

They do, its why Lions typically will split off smaller or weaker ones.

They wont go for ones in the herd they will scare them and will the herd is scambling to get united they get the stragglers.
